Approximately how many posts per day are made on DU?

Can anyone give an approximate number for the daily post count?

that relates back to January 2001.

Checking the post count and then checking it again about 24 hours later would give a good idea of current levels for the most part.

3. It depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is news cycle

Depending on what big story may hit, or slow news day, post traffic can get really heavy or slow down to a crawl cuz people have good weather and choose to go outside.
