Mother and daughter holding matching pink handguns at NRA meeting - pic
How cute... :eyes:

Tina Marie Mendieta and her daughter Sofia Mendieta pose for a picture while holding pink handguns during the National Rifle Association's 139th annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina May 15, 2010.

1. Oh, yes, so cute. But it would be better if they were scarlet red:
then they would match the blood when one of them manages to shoot herself.

71. Remember when gun makers came out with COLORED GUNS?
A few years ago a gun manufacturer made guns that were red, yellow, blue and green. They looked like toys and a child, or even an adult, might think were harmless toys. Of course, the NRA defended the colored guns. I believe the outcry against the colored guns ended their production, but I'm not sure.

5. Ummm...why is the mother holding the gun like that?
That's bad gun etiquette. It's pointing at the little girl's face.

My Dad would've kicked my ASS for doing something that stupid. Jesus, lady--take a gun safety course. You NEVER assume that a gun is clear. When you're holding it, you treat it as if it's loaded at all times for maximum safety, especially around children.

:banghead:

55. They are probably locals from Charlotte...
The Charlotte area has changed a lot in recent years. They aren't too bright and the place is full of child molesters and gun violence galore nowadays. Charlotte are the assholes that are keeping NC from being a firmly blue state. They aren't that bright over that way like they used to be in years past. I'm not kidding. Charlotte has changed. Used to love the place. Now, I avoid it at all costs. I can't believe how much it has changed.

70. Can't argue with that
Sometimes a gunsmith will allow you to sight you gun using him as a reference, e.g. "Point it just over my right shoulder and see how the stock sets against your frame." Other than this, the general rule is to never point the muzzle at anything unless it is your intent to destroy it.

73. True story (an army story)
When I served in basic there was a guy who was like Gomer Pyle on steroids. He was known as the 'Shitbird of B-5-2, our company name. I was next to him on the firing range shooting at targets when a drill sergeant came up behind him and said something to him. Without thinking the 'Shitbird of B52' turned around with his automatic M-16 pointed right at the drill sergeant. I thought that drill sergeant was going to explode!

You're right, you never point a weapon, loaded or unloaded, at anyone at any time. That mother in the picture should be condemned for being so reckless and teaching her beautiful little girl to be reckless too.

and if you look carefully, its probably not pointed at the girls head. The mother's body is turned and her arm is the front hip while the daughter is on the back hip. Too close for me, but not directly pointing at the girl's head.

24. That's unbelievable.
The FIRST thing you learn with firearm safety is to always treat a gun like it's loaded, as in, don't fucking point the thing at your kid's head because you're "sure" it's unloaded.

I'm 100% RKBA, but fucking morons like this waiving a gun around like it's a toy should have them confiscated under penalty for being stupid.

fashion accessories.

I've got an even better idea: How about matching pink handgun accessories like the mother and daughter have, except with one twist -- one is a real handgun, and the other is an identical looking camera! You just point at someone, pull the trigger and it takes a picture!

One gun, one camera! Matching holsters! What could go wrong?

51. It is not the color of the gun, it is the casual posing with the mother.
I guess it is hard to tell from the picture but it just seems "off" to me. And I am not anti-gun in any way. When I was in middle school, a boy in my class shot himself by accident with his older brother's gun and died. He was 14. That did not turn me off guns, just the foolish gung-ho aspect of them. And then there was my sister-in-laws former boyfriend, always waving around the gun showing it off.

I think I have a reasonable view about it. I don't think that gun control really works. On the other hand, to be a gun owner you need to be a responsible one. There is a middle ground, right?

64. More likely killed by the husband/father

Melanie Hain
------------

A soccer mum who gained notoriety for openly carrying a loaded pistol to youth sports events has been fatally shot by her husband as she video-chatted with a friend, authorities say.

Scott Hain used his own gun to fire several shots into his 30-year-old wife, Meleanie, while her video chat was active and perhaps as she washed dishes in their kitchen, police said. Scott Hain, 33, later killed himself in an upstairs bedroom.

66. That woman is an irresponsible idiot.
Basic rules of safe firearms handling.

1. ALWAYS assume that a firearm is loaded, even if it is not.
2. ALWAYS keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, even if unloaded.

This woman is a dumb shit who gives responsible firearms owners out there a bad name.
