I'm not thinking that we leave it up to the utility or private entity to take care of it.

Contain, secure, do whatever the f!@# it takes and then sort out blame/cost later. The moment public saftey or security is threatened I want to see government involvement, oversight and/or intervention and I want to see it sooner rather than later.

I think the same thing with a huge oil drilling blow-out.

Later on when the finger pointing begins, the first question will always be: Why did it fail in the first place?

How many times do you think the answer will be: de-regulation,lack of oversight and misguided trust of corporate entities to do the right thing(s) regardless of how it affects potential profit?

1. WHY is bp still the boss of this disaster???
I appreciate Your thoughts in the OP..
About 2 mos. ago, I wrote my 'reps' about the nuke energy issue, & said once fossil fuel is safe to the Environment & Humans, once WE can remove ALL evidence of exxon in Prince Wm.Sound, once the uranium can be safely mined to begin with AND can safely dispose of nuke waste, maybe.. MAYBE *WE* can safely use nuke-energy.

2. An Old Myth: The last person to date a pregnant woman is the father.
And that thinking prevails for this blow-out.

I have that problem of not noticing that the glasses I am looking for are on my nose :)

7. Ever since the 9/11 crash into the Pentagon building
I've realized all the safety we think we have is only in the movies. Isn't the Pentagon supposed to be one of the most guarded places on the planet?

8. That's pre-9/11 thinking.
All that government security was downsized (and/or privatized) when Bush/Cheney seized power.

12. Bush Cheney Rove
passed the buck to Obama. Bush Cheney Rove emasculated MMS. Bush Cheney Rove and Rummie tried to disestablish the Coast Guard (with help from Demint and Ensign).
