In the pre-dawn chill of upstate New York, nearly 600 local, state, and federal law enforcement officers assembled at the armory this morning to prepare for one of the area's largest gang takedowns in recent memory.

Indictments were unsealed against 78 members of two violent street gangs—the Bloods and the Latin Kings—and many of the unsuspecting gang members were about to wake up to SWAT teams, handcuffs, and a variety of federal drug charges.

“There are a number of neighborhood gangs in Newburgh, but these two national gangs are responsible for much of the drugs and crime in the city,” said Special Agent Jim Gagliano, who headed a 16-month, FBI-led Safe Streets Task Force investigation that culminated in this morning’s raids.

Many times justice wants people to think that the people on the street are the problem. It is part of two tier justice, which is not justice.

Justice served on banking and corporate crime has to be a part of the corrections to the system.

As far as manipulation, note that the people calling themselves kings and stealing far more then street gangs and causing more suffering, are in the corporate board rooms. And will be taken down because the world will move to justice.

Out of the nationwide figure, 61 arrests is a drop in the bucket, but for a town of 29,000 that might be a good chunk of the leadership or the bulk of the gangs' local manpower entirely.

17. I met a few Latino Kings years ago when I worked in an adolescent rehab.

I'm glad they were arrested - hope they get many years in prison. They are NOT "petty criminals"-the Kings are rapists and murderers.
