Chicago, D.C. to digitize Studs Terkel's interviews
Edited on Sun May-16-10 06:28 AM by mucifer
The Chicago History Museum and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. have announced a partnership to digitally preserve thousands of hours of Studs Terkel's book interviews and radio programs.

The late, legendary Chicago-based oral historian and broadcaster authored more than a dozen books (several of them bestsellers) and hosted a show on WFMT-FM for 45 years.

Terkel's on-air talks with many prominent subjects, including civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and actor Marlon Brando, had previously been preserved for posterity. But this joint effort marks the first time his entire catalogue and beyond will get the royal treatment.

Terkel, who died in late October of 2008, is the subject of an HBO2 documentary that premieres Saturday at 6 p.m.: "Studs Terkel: Listening to America."

1. this man was a very kind man
I wrote him a letter once, and within days received 3 books from him, all emblazoned with encouraging words from him inside, and a beautiful letter of hope and kindness.

a very very good person.
