In this case, the words are contained in today's editorial in the newspaper (
http://www.greeleytribune.com/article/20100516/OPINION/100519727/1025&parentprofile=1025).
The paper has a front page story about the Tea Party phenomenon. If I want to read it today, I have to go out and spend $1.50 for a hard copy; otherwise, I'll be able to read it online tomorrow. Meanwhile, the editorial is about the Tea Party, and one sentence in particular really got my notice: "The Tea Party, which began as a true grass-roots movement that has now reached national status..."
Now, knowing what we know about the tea party, there are soooo many problems with that assertion. For one thing, it really pisses me off that our newspaper's staff has done research so insufficient as to allow for such a statement. Then there's all the facts about the anything-but-grassrootiness of the tea party.
Needless to say, I really want to respond to the editorial via the online comments option. Problem is, the paper limits those comments to 650 words. Our local teabaggers overcome that limitation by posting serial comments, which also has the effect of pushing their opponents to the back pages; I don't want to resort to that tactic. I'd rather have one solid comment that could be repeated if it got buried.
So, since I'm not known for brevity, I'm asking for help in phrasing my comment. Or, if you'd rather, you can go to the paper and comment directly after going through their relatively quick and somewhat cheezy registration process. Either way, thanks DUers!
