Palin urges other states to follow Arizona’s example on immigration: ‘We’re all Arizonans now.’
In the "not shocking to learn" category - Palin supports republican and tea bagger legislation in Arizona.

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/05/16/palin-arizona-law-exampl/

"While campaigning for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) this weekend, Fox News contributor Sarah Palin strongly defended Arizona’s draconian new immigration law this weekend and called on other states to follow the state’s lead. Palin praised Brewer for signing the law and said Arizona is “ground zero” for border security issues. She also denied that the law would lead to racial profiling, and said of the new powers granted to police officers, “I think for most American people the reaction to that would be, ‘Why aren’t already doing that?” Recalling a line from her former presidential running mate, Palin added “We’re all Arizonans now“:

“It’s time for Americans across this great country to stand up and say, ‘We’re all Arizonans now,’ ” Palin said. “And in clear unity we say, ‘Mr. President, do your job. Secure our borders.’ ”

Palin also said Arizona was an example for the rest of the nation to follow. She was in town to speak at the Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife Conservation’s annual banquet at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in north Phoenix.

At the event, Palin and Brewer launched a new website to fight the mounting boycotts of Arizona protesting the new law. SecureTheBorder.org, payed for by Brewer’s reelection campaign, features a photo of Palin and Brewer, and encourages visitors to sign a petition saying, “I demand our border be secured and I oppose any boycott of Arizona.” The website also encourages people to “ake a stand and call or email” organizations that have pledged to boycott. The boycotts seem to be significantly worrying Brewer, as she established a new tourism task force whose “top priority” is to “stanch the flow of lost trade and convention business in the state.” “We were surprised by ,” a task force member said. “We didn’t think it was going to be a tourism issue.” Palin also criticized the boycotts last week."

truly hate this woman... Not good to feel this level of disdain towards anyone, of course.. But I have not found a way to avoid such feelings given her constant and abject idiocy.

I want to be associated with AZ about like I want the bubonic plague. Perhaps you can turn Alaska into a glacierbilly White Paradise, and have your own army.

5. She keeps drilling her catch phrases. secure our borders....what does she want?
A fence with parapets and armed guards? She keeps saying this stuff but there's nothing intelligent...it's like she's on a campaign or something. If she has ideas then great, she's got a pulpit (for some unknown reason...probably the train-wreck hypothesis) so why not use it to communicate some actual good ideas if she's got 'em?

a recent poll had approval of that law at 64% and opposition at 34%

Other Pukes are trying to copy AZ to bolster their conservative credentials. Scapegoating works, we all know it does and it easily could again.

Lawmaker hopes to give Michigan an immigration law like Arizona's
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LANSING -- A Michigan lawmaker said she believes the state's law enforcement officers need the authority to arrest illegal immigrants and is drafting legislation similar to Arizona's new immigration law.

Rep. Kim Meltzer, R-Clinton Township, said her bill would allow police to request proof of citizenship from people who are stopped and questioned on another offense, such as a traffic violation or selling fraudulent identity documents. Officers would have the authority to arrest people who can't prove their legal status.

18. It's because of the framing. They ask people
"Would you support racial profiling if it increased security" or something very close to that.

They don't tell people crime is DOWN in Arizona and that this law does nothing for anyone's security.

21. Agree that "scapegoating works" and the republicans are really good at it. They seem determined
to make this a wedge issue they can run on in November. They are good at ignoring facts and relying on emotional appeals and constant repetition to make such issues work for them.

We do need to "take this seriously". Not because they have the facts on their side, but so that we have the facts ready to destroy their fear-based sloganeering (which they are very good at).

22. No I'm a
North Carolinian and damn proud of it. I want nothing to do with AZ, and I have cousins that live there too....My borders are fine. I think our nation's borders are fine as is. Should illegal immigration be stopped, yes, but it won't even using the draconian methods recently implemented by AZ.

Nein, Ms. Tea Queen. Not me.

I'm afraid that if I step into your proto-racist fantasy world, I'll be stopped by a cop, asked for my papers and disrespected.

Going back to Jim Crow is not for me.

So Frau Brewer and you can take your "unity" and shove it where the sun doesn't shine!

Auf Wiedersehen! :grr:
