1. These fuckers are pissing me right the fuck off.
They're experts, and they cannot estimate how much oil that pipe is grabbing.

Anyone who is buying this shit needs to open their eyes.

2. Let's see... I think the pipe diameter is 21"? and the pipe supposedly removing

oil/gas is 4" dia.? That must be one hell of a suction. I'm always willing to be wrong, but the fluid dynamics here seems just a bit off...

3. It is the secrecy that is bothering me.
Tell us the flow rate out of that pipe. Surely they can do that.

6. And yes, I think you are correct in that something seems off...
I'm convinced they grossly underestimated the amount of gallons being gushed in the information that they released to the public.

Now, this 4" pipe is probably and hopefully a step in the right direction...but they need to make public what they know instead of saying that it will take a few days to determine. That is complete horse shit.

I hate those fucking BP execs. They should string them up by their nuts.

8. Yes, but the 21" pipe is bent and crimped.
It's not going to be flowing at maximum rate.

10. Assuming constant pressure behind the hole...
the rate of flow will increase through a smaller opening.

12. Yes, but rate of flow is not the same as total flow
If you crimp your garden hose, you speed up the rate of flow, but decrease the total flow.

Whether or not a 4" pipe can handle the oil will be a function of the total flow.

14. Agreed, but how does the rate factor in?
You may know the answer to this...I don't.

If the rate of flow is increased in the larger pipe due to the kink, will that impact the amount of oil that goes into the smaller pipe?

From a layman's point of view, it seems to me that the faster the rate, the less that will be able to be captured?

9. Looks like the government is not satisfied.
US says BP move to curb oil leak 'no solution'

The US has said the success of a move by oil giant BP to curb a leak in the Gulf of Mexico is "not clear" and the technique provides "no solution".

It was responding to BP's move to siphon oil from the leaking well head to a tanker on the surface.

A government statement said it would not rest until the leak was permanently sealed and the spill cleaned up.

BP executive Kent Wells earlier said the siphoning process was "working extremely well".

17. I'm not satisfied with my government.
They should have made them cap this, plug the holes and stop the oil from gushing out into the Gulf. All BP is concerned with is this lease, keeping the oil flowing and making their money. They don't want to lose this lease, this oil reserve.

I don't care about BP, I care about the Gulf - they've screwed us and my government has not made them stop the polluting, the poisoning of our waters.

16. It feels like they are moving slow because they don't want to lose the oil money
To hell with recovering the oil. They said they "could" just mud it over with tons of clay and mud. Well just do it!
