I just emailed my first LTTE to the Boston Globe
I would love to see it printed, Boston being my home town and all. The subject matter is about a month old, though I thought I was being clever, at least.

Here it is--let me know if you like it, hate it, or wish you could have written it: ;)

______________________________________________________________________________________________
A Note to Every Institute of Higher Learning in the United States:

It is going to be simple in the conceivable future to choose students suitable for higher education. The entrance requirements should be comprised of one single essay question: Please detail for us the process of evolution, and spelling will count for a full 25% of your grade.

With the exception of Bob Jones and various "bible" colleges, the Palinization of the country's text books, with their re-written histories, their exclusion of Thomas Jefferson to the inclusion of Phyllis Schafly, to creationism or ID being given equal merit with evolution, is a cause for shame in our country. Those who like to believe the U.S. is still a superpower instead of the coming emergence as an also-ran can be directly linked to the very loud screeches of the far right, with their tea-bagging, their fawning acceptance of symbols of hate such as Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the aforementioned Sarah Palin, and their blatant disregard for intelligence and science.

We can only hope that those regions which are seriously considering the adoption of the Texas Board of Education guidelines can be delineated in such a manner that when letters to colleges and universities come from within a series of zip codes where these have been adopted can be immediately fed into the incinerator without even the need to open them.

It's too bad it isn't that easy to deter students from homeschooling for religious purposes--this movement should have been stopped in its track when it was first apparent that the intellectually challenged parents had, and continue to have, no right to try to teach their children without the benefit of diplomas--or credentials--of their own.

How sad that these people have some say in the teaching and education of so many students. People are always complaining when our doctors, scientists and higher educated folks are from other countries--it must be very difficult to be so metally challenged that they can't see it's the result of the far right implementing such ludicrous changes as they are now attempting.

A Proud Graduate of the Boston School System, Class of '74

Before I go: keep in mind that LTTEs are supposed to stir debate, so it's quite all right to go "black/white" in perspective. If you are trying to simply be conciliatory, you might as well not bother writing in the first place.
