"In Defense of Sarah Palin"
Opinion Mine | May 16 2010 | Friend of George

Posted on Sunday, May 16, 2010 9:26:13 AM by Friendofgeorge

Watching the daily attacks on Sarah Palin and wondering how Reagan would have done if he was on the Conservative front today? We can ask 2 questions? Firstly how would Reagan have been welcomed by the folks at Free Republic today, assuming that Reagan was just coming on to the scene, and 2ndly what if Free Republic could magically be placed back in the Reagan 80`s era.

Certainly the Reagan that appointed Sandra Day O`Connor to the Supreme Court, would be thoroughly trashed here, no butts about it! Not to mention his position on immigration.

Imagine Reagan had just finished his second term in 2008, and was just releasing his book. How would it have gone over today when the book would show that he had no regrets about appointing Sandra Day to the High Court? His Presidential notes show that is what he said, and he had such respect for her that he wanted her to take a prominent part in his funeral service that he planned. And what about the Notes that he mentioned...(I paraphrase) The pro life groups have their shorts in a knot over the Day appointment.

I suspect Reagan would be trashed at Free Republic , just as so many have trashed GW, and now Sarah Palin. I fully suspect the same Palin Trashers would have dumped on Reagan just as they did on Bush. Probably would have said throw the bum out.

Just how I see it. BTW I liked Reagan and Bush, I never turned on GW as so many did here, and I am not turning on Sarah. She is a once in a generation candidate and quite frankly I am ashamed of the people here that are turning on her. Just know that you would do the same if it was Reagan today.

Republicans here basically threw the 2006 elections to the Democrats, because of 1 issue, that being immigration, which BTW was not even an issue in the 2008 election. Now we have Obama seemingly set to remake the High Court in his own warped NON Christian image. God Forbid he gets a 2nd term

I love Sarah and her message. But as a Presidential candidate? *shudder*

Sarah is doing exactly what she said she was going to do...good on her. In terms of the trashing she gets - she’s got an iron will because she fears God more than the opinion of men. May she live & be well....and may her tribe increase.

I do not have words to tell you how much I related to your words-wise words-regarding President Reagan, President Bush and Governor Palin. I think you are spot on and I certainly appreciate your common sense attitude. Many thanks for an excellent essay.

That is unacceptable...because EVERYTHING she is doing is trash by these people even when it’s helping the overall cause, what she did with Brewer is considered wrong by the haters because it involves Palin...If one spend more time trashing Sarah than Obama then something is terribly wrong

1. Fear of God is an interesting topic.
Edited on Mon May-17-10 01:18 AM by RandomThoughts
I don't think it is meant to be that people should fear God, but fear the justice that is served by God when they have issues that are not taken care of. I don't think God wants people in fear, but in some form of understanding. I also think God's mercy is vast, and is more about love then the other stuff.

The way I think about it is, if I was to be punished by God, then it would be just, so it is not fear in that way at all, it is more respect for all loving perfect justice. So I have a hard time thinking on fearing God in the context that the word fear is usually used.

I think that phrase has a paradox in it.

Not sure how other people think on that, but I thought a long time on that concept.

10. Old Testament vs New Testament (Exodus 20:5)
"You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,"

Seems to me this is not a god I would have a lot of faith in nor choose to believe in. Very different gods in the bible.

15. Note that I do not think anything bad as being punishment.
Nor do I think if you have something good is that reward

Those things could be caused by free will.

Well the generational sin thing, I have thought alot about, and have some thoughts that see that differently, it does not make sense in the context of free will and existence within many interpretations.

To resolve that paradox, I think on the concept that if a parent does wrong, it will reflect badly on their children, so I do not think of it as genetic inherited curse, that requires thought of no dignity or existence of people, or lack of justice. But it is a long argument, and I know many have different opinions on that.

Also if you think of God also being part of the spirit of many loving living people that are the least, then that comment can be about those that hate in many forms.

As far as jealous, I see it more to the point of don't mess with his love for many people, is how I see that.

14. Actually, the word "fear" as used in the "fear God" contexts means "respect."
To be "God-fearing" doesn't mean to be afraid of him, but to respect him. Of course, it follows that if you respect God, you will follow his laws and be worried about the consequences of not doing so, but it doesn't mean trembling in fear before God.

The freeper was using it in the same context: saying that Sarah Palin respects what she believes to be the word of God more than she does the words of men. Of course, that's always what the religious right falls back on when the world criticizes or ridicules them: "We care more about what God thinks of us than about what people think of us."

Her "Tribe" will be made of kids named for random objects Sarah sees while cranking them out. Are we ready for Speculum Palin?

3. A genuine measure of wisdom -- or even simple competence . . .
Is being able to tell when you're being conned.

These people seem to believe that Palin has has the light of the lord gleaming out of her eyes instead of (as the adults among us recognize) the gleam of dollars. Palin is one of those grifters who, years ago, decided that working for a living was for chumps and she was going to find some other path to wealth and fame.

I think she's exceeded even her expectations, but is shrewd enough to realize that the gravy will congeal and the train will shriek to a halt the moment her moronic fans realize she's never going to have any real power.

She can't even fall back on the Coulter Maneuver (TM) of recreating herself as a public banshee, because that would require her to Google-up her own books and actually assemble the galleys. Not to mention that Palin doesn't have Coulter's gift for extemporaneous effusions of psychopathic vitriol.

Nope, Sarah has to pretend that she has a future in politics and that all the knuckle-draggers currently cumming in their overalls for her will.be.heard at the highest levels of government.

...

I'm guessing $20 million.

That's how much Palin's going to have in the bank on the day she decides that all that politicky-MILFy stuff is just too boring for words and runs off to Rio with Justin Bieber in tow.

5. You can't call her a governor.
She quit that job for money. She brings stupidity to new heights and has one of the most lying personalities I have ever been witness to. I have no doubt that anyone who looks up to her is in the sub 80 IQ range. She's barely above that herself.

I dunno. I have to believe this country is now in Bizarro World when people like Palin are in any way respected or liked. She is a gross miscarriage of justice. She hasn't got the brain of a monkey, even though she does happen to look worse than one.

I shudder....between the shit from Palin and the tea-baggers, and then the shit spewed forth by the assholes on the Texas Board of Education, this country is ready to run from. If these people get their way, we might as well let Texas leave the union, and hand over the rest of the country to the fundies. I've got family in Canada. I might be better off, there!

from Canada according to HER, no record can be found, how come she continues to fume and foam against immigrants today. Their race maybe.
