White House distancing from Specter, preparing for loss...Bob Schieffer, CBS News
Bob Schieffer reported today that he "has been told on background that the White House is preparing for a Specter loss, and the President does not want to be associated with it."

I think it is too late to deny the "association".

Support Joe Sestak, because...

We already have too many Republicans in the Democratic Party!

1. Good. FWIW, the WH promised Specter help in exchange
Edited on Mon May-17-10 12:25 PM by Qutzupalotl
for his HCR vote, well before Sestak announced his challenge.

To save face now, the WH has to back off visible support for Specter. But if Sestak wins the primary, I believe he can count on help from Obama in the fall.

2. Republicans don't consider him to be one of their own
Edited on Mon May-17-10 12:28 PM by Zambero
He's best described as an centrist independent who selects party affiliation solely on the basis of re-election prospects. Many long-term Democrats in the Senate are more conservative than he is. He's certainly not the best choice to fill the Senate seat he now occupies (his soon-to-be victorious primary opponent is that person), but the fact that his defection to the Democrats enabled crucial elements of Obama's legislative program to succeed cannot be overlooked. The "scorn factor" as it might exist needs to be reserved for those Blue Dogs (Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson et al) who bought in to the GOP's "Waterloo" concept of bringing down Obama in order to maintain their own political standing.

3. Schieffer made sure it was all about him. This
just kills me when some so-called reporter says something to make everyone listen. I suppose I am just jaded in my old age but this reeks of "Look at me, I am something the cats covered up".

6. I'm with you.
I don't know if it's true or not but coming from him doesn't give it much credibility IMO.

4. Good.
It could go either way but I think the WH is smart to do this. :)
