Napolitano deflects the question from Susan Collins--

"are you happy with the private sector response to the crisis?"

Napolitano replied with Federal response and said it was premature to discuss the private sector response.

Napolitano: Those requests involves Defense, Homeland Security, the White House.
McCain: People's homes are being violated. People have aright to know if they are going to be sent.

Napolitano: "That's not the kind of law I would have signed. Law enforcement was opposed to that legislation.

People in LA : when can the well be stopped, when will claims paid, long-term impact to fisheries, how can the industry made safer for the future

2239 wells, In 1990 4% in Gulf were deep water wells, now 60% of oil in Gulf comes from deep water

This blowout is putting MORE OIL IN 1 1/2 DAYS THAN THE LAST 30 YEARS.

HS, EPA, NOAA, Interior--what dollar amount is spent on response to a catastrophe like this?

24. He has been taken to the woodshed,
and for all we know--though I despise the practices and culture of BP--he could have voted for Obama. But yes, his demeanor today was quite different from what it was at earlier hearings. He did not dodge questions.

BP has a very sophisticated public relations team. It controls the news cycle to a large degree, positions itself extensively in broadcast and internet media, and is trying to follow the rules of crisis communication. At first it failed miserably, but it seems to be coming around, probably because it realized that its initial strong-arm tactics of obfuscation and media control weren't working. As polished as its PR practices might be, it faces a skeptical and educated audience.

The emphasis now seems to be on "learning from mistakes," which is superior to the previous "we've never had this happen at 5,000 feet" tactic.

Mr.McKay is definitely learning. ;-)

22. Lieberman blames MMS for not telling BP to think ahead.
No one asked BP why it should not have thought of emergency procedures on its own.

Seemed to a general consensus that if it ain't in the regs, it doesn't have to be done.
