Taiwan to install LED street lighting, says report
Peter Clarke - EE Times - (05/17/2010 6:27 AM EDT)
LONDON — The Taiwanese government plans to begin installing street lights that use light emitting diodes (LEDs) replacing traditional sodium- and mercury-vapor and other external light systems, according to a Taiwan Economic News report that referenced President Ma Ying-jeou, speaking on Sunday (May 16).
The move is said to be a prelude to the adoption of LED lighting throughout all government offices and comes after a program of converting traffic lights to LEDs, the report said.

The LED street lighting program is expected to create a NT$10 billion (about $300 million) opportunity for domestic LED light makers and aggravate a shortage of LED chips, the report said. It listed Epistar Corp., Everlight Electronics, LiteOn Technology, and Delta Electronics as potential beneficiaries.
