Do the TV ads urging "conservative investors" to buy gold bother anyone else? |
|
It seems to me that they are urging supposedly red, white and blue uber-patriotic conservatives to bet against America "in these uncertain times" when our "big spending government" pushes the national debt "higher and higher."

1. Personally, I would never buy gold based on a TV commercial |
|
or a telemarketer. It's a gimmick, in my opinion.

2. I was a bit bothered by the 'sell you antiques etc' |
|
aspect of it, 'you are afraid and who knows what will happen, now is the time to secure your future/retirement by selling your priceless family heirlooms', for the price of smelted gold.

4. Conservative investor means low risk investor |
|
One who is more concerned about preserving their assets rather than making money. It doesn't usually mean politics in this context.

5. Hey, if dumbfucks want to buy gold when it is at historic high prices - let them go for it! |
|
That ad is apparently one of the few remaining on Glenn BecKKK's show. They know where to find ignorant suckers.

7. Fools and their money are soon parted |
|
and this just shows you how desperate the big money is to keep the prices propped up so they can get out safely.
Consider how fast the price of gold has risen without the same in inflation and that's your answer as to what they're doing.

10. They run the same sort of commercials on Liberal talk radio. |
|
Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartman even do on-air reads for them.
They're bipartisan hucksters.

12. Gold prices are being manipulated every bit as much as oil |
|
Those who get sucked by those ads would have been those who gave up their lives, families, and safety in many cases to chase the gold rush.
But, then I find much of what passes for "Business Opportunity" and "Smart investing: today to be based on winning at the expense of our country. The ultimate in cynicism.

14. A "conservative investment" has nothing to do with politics. |
|
It's a "safe" investment, which is unlikely to lose value in the near term. Conservative investors are typically looking for ways to save wealth while earning a modest return. Gold, CD's, and Money Market accounts are typically considered to be conservative investments.
It's a bad time to be a conservative investor. CD's and MM's are nearly worthless right now because of the crappy interest rates, and gold IS in a bubble. People are hiding their money in gold because they don't know any better.
I have a few one ounce gold bars in a safe deposit box, but they're more of a conversation piece than an investment. I bought them in late 1999 for about $280 each, and they're worth about $1200 each now thanks to the bubble. It's a nice appreciation, but I wish I'd bought more than three of them :dunce:
