The UMWA expects 3,000-5,000 of its members to protest outside the Massey meeting on Tuesday at company headquarters in Richmond.
The protestors also plan to hold a candlelight vigil Monday evening outside the company headquarters in honor of the men killed in the UBB disaster.

Massey's shareholders will gather May 18th at the Jefferson Hotel.
http://www.wtvr.com/news/wtvr-massey-protest-20100516,0,4343640.storyRICHMOND - Several environmental groups are planning a protest this week as Massey Energy Inc. holds its annual meeting in Richmond.
Massey's shareholders will gather May 18th at the Jefferson Hotel.
The environmental groups say that they plan to protest mountaintop removal mining and what they say is Massey's history of neglecting mine safety regulations. The protest outside the hotel will be held by Mountain Justice, Coal River Mountain Watch, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, and Southern Appalachian Mountain Stewards.
Richmond-based Massey has defended its record and denied repeatedly charges that the company puts profits ahead of safety.

Since 2000, 52 people have been killed on Massey Energy property, according to the Mine Workers (UMWA). On April 5, 29 coal miners were killed in an explosion at Massey’s Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia. The nonunion mine had a long record of safety violations.
Family members of the Upper Big Branch victims, UMWA President Cecil Roberts, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker and UMWA members and allies will rally outside the shareholders meeting.
