Though almost everyone agrees that “morality” is a good thing, there is widespread disagreement on what is moral and what isn’t. Consequently, the fact that people agree that morality is a good thing is virtually meaningless.

Conservatives have long had a political advantage on this issue because they have come to be seen as the party of “moral values” – by virtue of the fact that they talk about it incessantly.

...the idea that morality cannot exist without empathy struck a chord with me, as did the argument that morality cannot reliably be derived from an authority.
