Indiana Rep. Mark Souder (R-Adultery) to Resign Amid Affair With Staffer
Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female staffer who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.

Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female staffer who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.

Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.

Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.

Citing ‘relationship' with staffer, Souder to resign

WASHINGTON – Saying he “sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff,” Rep. Mark Souder, R-3rd, said Tuesday will resign from Congress.

Souder, who won re-nomination to run for a ninth term, said he won’t be a candidate in the fall.

“I believe it is the best decision for my family, the people of northeast Indiana and our country,” he said in a statement.

1. Well, ok, but how does this get elevated
to the level of the House Ethics Committee?

Where's the ethical violation? Is there something illegal here? The affair is with a human being of consenting age.

It might be an issue with voters because voters can take issue with anything, and it's probably a big issue with the family. Other than that, what's the ethical problem deserving of the House Ethics Committee attention?

:wtf:

2. I was hoping it was going to be a male staffer.
Oh well, at least another "family values" hypocrite is gone.

5. I don't see that spread all over the news
like Governor Spitzer's tryst with a call girl. It seems again we have one media blitz for a Democratic member and media silence for a republican. As long as the republicans are owners of the media they will never print anything about republicans that is negative, unless forced to.

9. That's just what I was wondering.
It makes it sound like he either paid her for sex, or refrained from firing her for it, not merely an extramarital affair.

Excuse me while I :puke:.

Man, they have nothing original to say other than the tired old Jimmy Swaggart rot.

10. Whoa, wait for the wall-to-wall coverage on this!
I mean, John Edwards wasn't even holding office when his affair came out. It'll be a snarling, snapping media mosh pit to go after a Republican elected official, right? We'll get 24-7 coverage of Souder, his record, his sanctimonious and hypocritical ways, his paramour will be on Today, the Morning Show, Good Morning America, The View, Oprah and Maury, right? We'll know more about Tracy Jackson than we do about the Gulf Gusher within 24 hours, right?

Right?
