Feds Probe Teacher's Obama Assassination Lesson

Ala. Geometry Teacher Investigated by Secret Service after He Used Hypothetical Assassination of President to Teach Angles

(CBS/ AP) A Jefferson County geomotry teacher was investigated by the Secret Service after he used a hypothetical assassination of President Barack Obama as a way to teach angles.

School officials say the Corner High School teacher apparently was teaching his students about parallel lines and angles and used the example of where to stand and aim to shoot the president.

Authorities were alerted, and Roy Sexton, special agent in charge of Birmingham's Secret Service office, says his agency spoke with the teacher, did not find a credible threat and closed the investigation. No charges were filed.

Superintendent Phil Hammonds says the teacher remains at work and there are no plans to fire him.

1. WTF
At the very least you would think he deserves a brief suspension.

19. So?
Unions have rules to protect teachers, but there are always provisions for dealing with people whose behavior warrants disciplinary action.

What a BS way to get in a little union-bashing.

20. That's just lazy, dude.
If you want to piss on unions there has to be a cleverer way than this attempt. Start a thread about it and show some balls.

14. In Arizona, it's taught in college. Alabama ranks just below us in education
so they must teach it in graj school.

7.  They Should Have Used An Actual Historical Event (Kennedy, Lincoln, etc.)
and studied that. It could have been integrated with other subject areas as well. This teacher deserves a suspension, for starters, and a full investigation as well.

9. NO assassination needs to be studied in high school from the assassin's perspective.

10. This person belongs in jail
Even thinking about or joking about such a thing should be illegal, regardless of whether or not the threat is credible.

18. What other thoughts should be illegal?
Just thinking about this subject is making me squirm. I hope I don't get arrested.

12. Consequences...
I am glad to finally see 'some' consequences being meted out if only the FBI questioning. I have a very strong belief that lack of consequences has a lot to do with our political environment now.
