10. That seems to be pretty Philly-driven at the moment. |
|
We'll have to see what the overall turnout in Philly was. I know that turnout in Philly has been reported to be low, but it was pretty brisk at my polling station. I voted around 12:00 PM and was #123. I've voted later in primaries past and been voter #50 or so.

16. The Democratic machine is officially sided with Specter. |
|
To put it in a nutshell. That means unions getting out the vote for him and the black clergy siding with him. That's huge in Philly. African-Americans are also saying that they know and trust Specter. Philly also has a lot of health care workers and medical researchers who appreciate Specter's support of the NIH. Specter has a history of coming through for Philly, even when he was a Republican. It wasn't uncommon for Philly and its suburbs to support Specter even when he was officially an "R". Specter and Philly are a bizarre phenomenon that has gone on for years.

Arlen's an old Philly lawyer and well-known, personally.
He's liked, intellectually, by both Dems and Reps.
He's got close ties with labor unions here.
He's always been great to Philly.
We here in Philly look at the rest of the state and despair Sestak (or any progressive) ever winning. I mean, look, we all held our noses and voted for Bob Casey. (anti-choice...)
We're scared of Toomey. Really, really scared...
