NY Times on Blumenthal - Is That All You Got?
Great blog post by Connecticut's one of Connecticut's preeminent journalists, Colin McEnroe:

Having had a little time to review the New York Times reporting on Blumental and think about it a little bit: I have a few observations some of which will probably get me flamed as a Blumenthal-protecting hack, but so be it.

1. Raymond Hernandez's story is paper-thin and overplayed. No question, he's got one video clip in which Blumenthal says he was in Vietnam. And he's got, five years earlier, a quote attributed to Blumenthal where he says "we" in way that's at least open to multiple interpretations. And that's it. That -- and those recollections by Jean Risley UPDATE who has apparently repudiated the Times's reporting -- are the whole basis for his huge above-the-fold page one story. In all the other times that Blumenthal put his military service on the record, as far as I can tell, he's been truthful about who he was. Certainly, in his debate with Merrick Alpert, he clearly said he did not serve in Vietnam.

A lot more at the link...

1. I love Colin. Too bad he is not on radio anymore, the RW hacks from CT are horrible.
As far as the NYT goes, they are trying to push an established lying pattern over time. It is not true.

2. He is on WNPR in Connecticut
every day from 1-2. Not like doing 3 hours in drive time on the 50,000 watt flamethrower, but he is on the air.

5. Thanks for letting me know...I will try and see if I can pick that up in
the Bristol/Terryville area.

7. It's usually on FM
so, you can get it pretty clearly in the Hartford area. Somewhere in the low 90s (90.5 or 91.5 sound familiar to me?)

3. Consider Blumenthal's 20 years of good work as AG.
Consider his work for veterans.
Consider that the McMahon clan proudly wear their smut on their sleeve.

Vote Blumenthal 10'!

6. Welcome to DU
I hope he explains something, or they find his connection to McMahon.

10. My father thinks that this is the end for Blumenthal.
His reasoning is that the media worked to 'swiftboat' Kerry and he was a genuine war hero.
The Rethugs can make Blumenthal appear to be a liar (and many will believe it).

12. There is a difference, though
Blumenthal has a 20+ year track record in Connecticut, while Kerry was virtually unknown outside of Massachusetts. Blumenthal even had a favorable rating among Republicans when he announced his run for Senate.

13. True. 2/3 still approve of the job he is doing.
Also, there is a parallel between he and Kennedy.
Chappaquiddick failed to take down Ted Kennedy, as the voters still had a strong connection to his brother.
Connecticut voters still have a strong connection to Blumenthal because he has done so much work.
I should have mentioned, my father is a poor judge of these situations.
