Ok, I was old enough to vote by the 1992 election and would have voted for Clinton, but I was at college at the time and not clear on the election laws...

I was living in Germany in 1996, so again, didn't vote.

Haven't missed a national election since, and only 2 local elections.

Speaking of which...I need to get my address changed on my voter registration...

I know they were still running presidential candidates in the 1980s (they don't anymore), but I didn't know they were fielding a substantial number of Congressional candidates.

In 1984, because of the popularity of Ronald Reagan's anti-Communist administration and decreased CPUSA membership, Gus Hall chose to end the CPUSA's nation-wide electoral campaigns.

77. First vote 1968 .....
Wrote in Eugene McCarthy, the peace candidate I had campaigned for. He had left the race offering support to Robert Kennedy, whom I would have voted for if he had not been assassinated. I had just turned 21 that summer. I was heartbroken. I could not bring myself to vote for Humphrey because he had supported LBJ and the Viet Nam war all along and I didn't believe he had changed anything except what he was saying.

I was too young by just a couple of days to vote McGovern in 1972. But being in California, we know there was no point in going to the polls anyway, since Nixon had already won. After that is when network news changed, so they did not call the race until all the states had closed their polls.

Oh, you meant for president? Kerry the next year. Although ACTUALLY, I should mention that in 2000, I was too young to vote, but I got my 18-year-old cousin (who wasn't planning to vote at all) to vote for Gore in my place. So, sort of Gore.

I was passing out emory boards with the words "Emil Masgay for Clerk of Courts".

The following November I pulled the lever for a straight Dem ticket and everyone I voted for won! That day I gave out free pencils with the County Coroner's name on them.

108. I worked for McCarthy campaign in '68 but...
Edited on Thu May-20-10 06:22 AM by Madam Mossfern
I was only 20 years old so I was not yet able to vote.
My first vote was for McGovern in 1972.

What year was it again that they changed the voting age.
I remember "Old enough to die for your country, yet not to vote!" or something like that.

On edit: Eventually I will learn to post in the proper place.

109. 1983; for Labour; Michael Foot was leader; directly voted for Frank Dobson MP
Edited on Thu May-20-10 09:02 AM by LeftishBrit
In the UK, you directly vote for the MP, not the prime minister.

My MP won; but of course, and very sadly, Thatcher's Tories beat Foot's Labourites.
