Obama should create a MASSIVE Jobs Bill to clean the incoming disaster |

"Never let a good disaster go to waste". Rahm Emanuel Well, here's an immense disaster. Do something great.
We are going to need so many more people than are currently involved.

10. Think of it as an attack on the "Homeland". |

There seems to be plenty of money for the two wars.

2. Maybe so, but lets make sure that the Tax Paying Americans are not on the hook |

for this disaster! I agree that this is opportunity for those that live along the Gulf Coast to be employed to clean this shit up, but I want to see BP and the other idiots pay the piper.

4. We're on the hook for this disaster. BP isn't going to pay any more than |
|
Exxon did. That's the problem with setting bad precedents.
The only way out is to create an Apollo-style program to get us off of fossil fuels.

But presidents don't legislate. That would be the role of Congress.

8. Are people really expecting jobs? |
|
I think people are expecting some program or effort to repair and reverse the massive hemorrhaging of jobs we have seen.
I really don't think that is forthcoming, but the expectation itself seems to suffice for some. You know, holding onto a think layer of hope because you really believe that the PTB are going to come to their senses and become altruistic to save the day for the masses.
I would encourage people to consider the alternative to anything resembling a recovery. First, what would need to happen in order to make it so. Secondly, what do you think life will be like here for all of us if the unemployment situation never improves, and even worsens gradually over a long period?
Will people who are still thriving in the system care or notice? Will we simply come to accept this new, grim reality even though it will carry with it an enormous social price in terms of violence, mental stress and other obvious results? A permanent underclass will certainly transform this country into something potentially third-world-like.
I think that with media at the helm and lots of fear from Homeland Security, (don't make waves) many people will simple divert their eyes and let this continue. Why do anything or take a risk as long as you have your necessities and even some luxuries? It is happening to them, not me!
Things will change dramatically concerning our way of life, one way or another.
