As tonight should remind all of us: |
|
Edited on Tue May-18-10 11:45 PM by UrbScotty
Primaries matter.
Elections matter.
Voting matters.
Being involved matters.
---------------------------------------
As is often said, we need MORE and BETTER Democrats. Primaries are a time to focus on getting BETTER Democrats nominated. November will be a time to elect MORE Democrats.
Our voices are important in both the primary and the general election. Don't doubt that for a second.
And after the election, no matter the results, it will be even more important that we get more progressives leading our Party. That starts from the grassroots.
Onward and Upward for liberalism!

3. As many of us have already stated and predicted, it's not going to be a "doom and gloom" year for |
|
the Dems. The Talking Heads have to turn everything into a political race, else their ratings would plummet. If it weren't for them, the race between HIllary and Obama would have ended on February 12, 2008. But because they had to keep the race going, it was no holds barred. They had to set the narrative.
This year's message is "doom and gloom" for the Dems.
If tonight is any indication, I think the Dems will do fine. In fact, I will go out on a limb and predict that the Dems will fare much, much better than in previous midterm elections when they held power. I think they will debunk the conventional wisdom that the party in power always loses seats. Of course there will be some upsets. Of course, those upsets will be painful. But I predict that the Republicans will also experience major upsets, starting with Grandpa McCain in Arizona. His attempt to be wackier than the tea baggers isn't paying off well.
And what of poor ole Sarah the Half-Term Governor. Now that she has thrown the tea baggers under the bus, will they embrace her again? There's not only a split within the Republican Party; there's now a split within the Tea Party Movement. Half the tea baggers are really Republicans and will go home to the party. But there are principled tea baggers who are willing to stay at home and not participate at all.
The turnout tonight says it all for me. The Republican Party is not energized at all with the choices of candidates that they have to choose from. The numbers in KY tell me all I need to know.
Dems seem much more invested in these elections with good candidates like Sestak and Halter.
I think this is good and makes politics much more fun.

4. Yup, it's been a good night |

Even though J. D. Hayworth is really off the rails, I would so like to see McCain gone in November. He's been cut waaaay too much slack in the Senate - people tip-toeing around Grandpa. J. D. is estra nutty and will be so out of his league, he'll be marginalized.
