The little girl killed by police in detroit

...This was not an accident as the police, state and local officials and the media claim. Before the raid, neighbors and relatives warned the police there were small children inside the eastside home on Lillibridge where Aiyana was murdered. They ignored these warnings and launched a military-style raid on the home, using stun grenades and heavy weapons. The whole thing was being filmed at the time for a crime television reality show...

...In the eyes of the rich and powerful, workers and young people are dispensable. DTE executives order utility shutoffs to hundreds of thousands of Detroit area households in the area, knowing full well what the tragic consequences will be. In the same fashion, Mayor Bing, a multimillionaire, says there is “no money” for schools and city services. He plans to shut down whole neighborhoods deemed too poor to maintain....

In the days since Aiyana’s murder, city officials and the media have defended the police department’s law-and-order methods...Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley went so far as to try to implicate ordinary Detroiters in the young girl’s death. Supposedly they are to blame for this tragedy and others like it because of their tendency towards “harboring criminals” in their homes and neighborhoods, refusing to cooperate with the police... She denounced those “demanding justice” for Aiyana, claiming they were “looking for someone to blame” instead of themselves.

This is utter hypocrisy. The source of crime is not evil children but the horrendous social conditions that plague the city and leave the vast majority of youth without any decent prospect for a future. The political establishment has no answer to these problems. The real unemployment rate in Detroit has hit the Depression-era level of 50 percent. Young people in the city are growing up in homes without heat and electricity, forced to live in dilapidated houses or homeless shelters. The school system has been systematically dismantled by budget cuts and teacher layoffs. Far from improving the situation, every measure taken by Mayor Bing and the corporate interests that stand behind has worsened the situation....The political establishment has no answers to Detroit’s social crisis except more police, more prisons and more brutality. At the same time, the real criminals — the corporate bosses and Wall Street speculators who have looted society — get away scot-free and are rewarded with trillions in public assets...

1. We are becoming a third world country, there is no doubt
about it.

What a beautiful little girl and another senseless death in the land of the free.

This person who is using the same rhetoric the rightwing uses when the military kills innocent civilians, 'it's the fault of the adults for harboring terrorists', is simply despicable.

In a way I feel sorry for everyone involved. The country is falling apart and no one knows what to do about it ~ sometimes it just seems hopeless. But one thing is certain, starting a war using military tactics against the citizens of this country, could not be a worse idea as we are seeing over and over again.

R.I.P. to yet another innocent victim of failed, stupid policies promoted by rightwing lunatics. Turning crime into entertainment was another a rotten idea. How can a cop do his job properly when he is performing for the cameras?

2. here's the article by riley:

http://www.freep.com/article/20100518/COL10/5180348/1164/Col10/Its-up-to-Detroiters-to-stop-bloodshed

In the coverage of the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones, an alert Free Press reporter wrote about toys strewn across the lawn of the three-story house that police stormed early Sunday morning in search of a killer.

How could the police officers ignore the toys?

But if the man police eventually pulled from the house where 7-year-old Aiyana Jones died actually turns out to be the man who put two bullets into a 17-year-old's chest Friday afternoon:

How could he ignore the toys? And how many more children have to die?

Uh, rochelle, how come you don't mention that the "man they eventually pulled out" was in a separate upstairs apartment?

Writer plays the money card: it's all about the family "getting paid," & the city "going broke" from such payments:

The death of a second-grader at the hands of police officers is a tragedy ripe for investigation, national cameras and Geoffrey Fieger swooping in to make sure the family gets paid. And now that Fieger claims the shot that killed Aiyana came from outside the house, the bet is even money that the city will be even more broke real soon.

A rationalization or excuse in every paragraph.

3. That is one sick woman.
She should be fired. I just read the full aricle. People have been saying that the build-up of military police and private armies in this country, is to protect the wealthy from 'civil unrest'. Apparently that is what the police in Chicago are doing by increasing the brutal raids on civilian homes etc. They apparently compared the citizens there to Iraq and Afghanistan and are treating them the same way.

The heart-breaking story of the three children who died in the fire after their utilities were cut off??? What is going on in this country! Privatization is killing people. Greed, heartlessness, this woman 'columnist' is exhibit A of everything that is bad and ugly about this country. She is immune to the reality around her, to even the deaths of children. She has become a monster.

Something will have to give. I read another article today about the Detroit Police Dept's Gang Unit brutalizing the population also. And their answer to poverty is more brutality.

No wonder the people won't cooperate with the police. The police are more threatening to them than the criminals. This is America and we are going around the world bringing them 'democracy'??

11. But IF the man turns out to be the man they were looking for ... fucking IF?
So she's cool with that beautiful child being stone cold fucking dead if there's any possibility that the guy living upstairs is a criminal? I'm not a member of the DU Reflexive Cop-Haters Club, but those officers fucked up, and they need to be held accountable. FUCKING IF!?!?!?!?!

8. Look, here's the reality: Some 7-year-olds have to die
The chances are pretty good it won't be your 7-year-old, so why make a big fuss? Just feel safer, because that's what it's all about. And if you don't feel safer, maybe it's because you're some kind of criminal yourself, or harboring one, which is just as bad if not worse.

Besides, do you know what a waste of time, energy and money this all was? The teevee show can't use any of the footage they shot! How come nobody's worried about their loss? I ask you? Arrest my case!

12. KNOWING THE REAL STORY, the police arrested her grandmother
dragged her to the lock up, to a hospital for drug testing, back to the station for gun powder testing before they released her. And the lady says that the cops wouldn't let the family check on the other children after the gun fire.

13. They're more like...
...infantry than cops. The area is secure. All suspects detained. The hostiles have been terminated. There may have been some collateral damage, we need a PR unit.
