How the FUCK do you go from Democrat to Goldwater?

Fred's on CNN talking about his book. It's got 'Pig' in the title. Only thing he said that I agreed with.

8. Well, that's good. I don't think he added a hell of a lot to the
2008 field at all.

:hi:

3. Was he really awake, or did he mumble it in his sleep?

4. I had a friend in college
He was very politically oriented while we were in college (1957-1961) and was a solid Democrat (I think his family was involved in politics). I got a mimeograph letter from him (apparently sent to all of the classmates) in 1964 saying how he was supporting Goldwater and looking for Goldwater to lead up out of our problems. He was sort of like St Paul after his encounter on the road to Damascus. Later he became a staunch supporter of the GOP and a Republican candidate for office (he lost).

6. How do you go from Democrat to Goldwater?
Easy. Think 1) "Dixiecrat", 2) Lyndon Johnson pushing for civil rights legislation, 3) Goldwater opposing Johnson in the '64 election.

11. About right. Maybe a little early. He said Goldwater rather than
Johnson. Civil Rights, Medicare and the War on Poverty are probably what moved him to the Republicons. He is from TN.
