I'm thinking it's going to be a kind of tense day at Blanche Lincoln headquarters |

1. on Morning Joe, Chuck Todd said it seems like her campaign is over if history says anything |
|
guess a sitting Senator losing a primary challenge or being forced into a run-off hasn't gone well in the past

3. Yep. I think Blanche thought she would cruise to re-nomination, |
|
but even her own internals would have told her she was going to lose the general. She just feels faded out to me. Halter did better than expected at a time when Blanche did far worse than she ever thought she'd do.

4. It's her own damn fault |
|
I've got friends who support Lincoln, I know, but she was too much of a stick-in-the-mud on health insurance reform and other issues. Maybe it's time for Halter to show how things are done downtown.

5. I hope Halter can somehow win nomination. I like him. |

You're right. Blanche is a stick in the mud.

She is the poster child for the DLC strategy.

7. Just judging from their respective positions I'd say DC Morrison's votes will go to Blanche |
|
The 3rd candidate in that Democratic Primary is far to the Right - how he calls himself a Democrat is beyond me - so one can assume his votes will both evaporate to a large extent but those that persist will go to Lincoln, not Halter. In the General Election they will vote Republican. So I see Halter as losing in the runoff and Lincoln losing in the General.

8. Hi, ThomWV. That's the scenario I'm wishing hard to avoid, but |
|
the practical world is always ruining my plans.
I hope the Morrison voters are so disenchanted that they stay home and pout. I hope Halter supporters are wildly energized and show up in strong numbers for the run-off and that Lincoln's voters are demoralized enough to say, "Well, geez, Halter does look pretty good after all..." etc.

9. Disenchanted Lincoln voters |
|
It's not that I'm particularly arguing your logic, it's just that it is a bad "omen" for Lincoln. There were those that may have voted for her because she "seemed" like the best choice of the three, sticking with what you know and all. Once it's a two person race, her incumbency may actually work against her. People can vote for Halter knowing that won't set up a Morrison victory.
Probably not, but an incumbent being forced into a runoff doesn't have a good history. Something must happen.
