Difference between left/right during oil spill congressional hearings |
|
Another round today; currently on C-SPAN3.
Here's the gist:
Democrats: There should be no liability cap; drilling offshore isn't worth it; it's clear oil companies fight safety measures and are negligent; not impressed with the response. Tone of the questioning is generally unpleasant and sometimes (rightfully) condescending.
Republicans: We don't want to hurt smaller companies by removing the cap; let's not point fingers at a time like this; we hope to see BP and Transocean recover; we don't want gas going to $6 a gallon; you don't stop flying after a plane crash; there have only been a few spills out of all the operations ever; BP is doing all it can and is meeting obligations. Nothing but leading questions to point out how safe drilling is and a ton of excuses on behalf of BP and Transocean.
The right wing is SHAMELESS. Right now John Duncan is saying how "impressed" he is with BP having paid so many claims already. Wow.
