If you could not have your first choice, who would be your 2nd choice for Democratic Nominee?
Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that there is only one candidate out there we support. This is not true.

Many people here will be disappointed when the Democratic Nominee chosen is not their first choice.

However, we are in great shape with the array of candidates available to us this time, and as Democrats we will vote for our Party's Nominee.

Please post the name of your SECOND choice (as if your first choice were eliminated) and let's see where we stand.

5. It's gotten to the point that as long as the candidate is a democrat
I'll be happy. In the past I thought I'd throw a fit if I was forced to vote for certain candidates but not anymore.

18. For me, it's any prochoice Democrat
because I can cross that line like I could have crossed the abolitionist line in the 1850s.

They're all good candidates. Each has something to offer.

9. Edwards . . .
But I think we've got at least three clear winners in the pack, *not* including Gore.

A smart campaign should put any one of them in the White House.

11. A progressive to be named at a later date...
The great thing about primary campaigns is you really don't have to start at the beginning. And about the middle of November when people have tired of the mudslinging, when the old moderight ideas are showing through the campaign managers' threadbare duvet covers someone new can step in.

13. Which ones support full human and civil rights for gay people again?
It must be age because, goodness knows, there are few enough that I should be able to remember who supports my full inclusion in society and who does not.

20. Obama and Clinton botch the ‘immorality’ question; Edwards answers it directly
"Is homosexuality immoral?"
Hillary: “Well, I am going to leave that to others to conclude.”
later, a correction:
Clinton’s spokesman, Philippe Reins, said the New York senator “obviously” disagrees with Pace and that everyone, including the general, “has the right to be wrong, but should not inject their personal beliefs into public policy.”

Then Wednesday night, the campaign released a statement from the senator herself, saying, “I disagree with what he said and do not share his view, plain and simple.”

“It is inappropriate to inject such personal views into this public policy matter, especially at a time in which there are young men and women in such grave circumstances in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and around the world,” Clinton said.

On Wednesday, Newsday repeatedly asked Obama if same-sex relationships were immoral.

“I think traditionally the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman has restricted his public comments to military matters,” said Obama, leaving Capitol Hill. “That’s probably a good tradition to follow.”

He turned the conversation to opposition to the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy: “I think the question here is whether somebody is willing to sacrifice for their country.”

Later, an Obama spokesman said the senator, in fact, disagrees with Pace.

BLITZER: Let’s talk about General Peter Pace, the chairman of the joint chiefs. He suggested today, his own personal opinion, homosexuality, he said, was immoral. As a result, don’t change the don’t ask, don’t tell policy.

First of all, in your opinion, is homosexuality immoral?

EDWARDS: I don’t — don’t share that view. And I would go — go further than that, Wolf. I think the don’t ask, don’t tell is not working. And as president of the United States I would change that policy.

BLITZER: Is the don’t ask, don’t tell policy immoral?

EDWARDS: I think the don’t ask, don’t tell policy is wrong. It’s not working. I think what it’s done, effectively, is kept us from having some of the most talented people we could have in our military. It’s caused — caused more problems than it’s solved. And it ought to be changed.

35. There are more rights than just service in the military. Marriage, for example
Except for Kucinich, all of the announced Democratic candidates oppose actual equal marriage. And no, Jim Crow civil unions are not and never will be equal marriage. So if I could not have my first choice, I'm rather screwed, aren't I?

14.  Using 'Instant runoffs' may reveal a lot about overall strength of the Candidates and Party...
While Edwards is my first choice....

Al Gore would be my second choice if he were a candidate. If not, either Hillary or Obama would be next on my list.

15. After Gore
and depending on the day and topic I am equally attracted to Obama and Edwards. Clark may sway me if he runs and I am very appreciative of Kucinich and his fight to impeach the criminals.

In other words, I can't make up my mind yet. I will vote for the DEM nominee whoever wins however.

22. Gore
He's actually my first choice but since he hasn't gotten in yet, he hasn't been "eliminated." On the basis of policy alone, my next choice is Kucinich, but I don't see him getting the nomination. I like Richardson's experience, but in the end, I think Hillary has the best chance of getting elected and I will be happy to vote for her. Hillary Clinton and Bill Richardson would be a winning ticket.
