Do you report to someone you don't respect? |
|
I dodged a re-org bullet at work, but the very thought of reporting to this just-promoted, kiss-up / kick down nutcase (John Bolton much?) was enough to skyrocket my BP.

My current boss's one skill is kissing the ass of the person above him. But fortunately for him, the only thing she really cares about is the ability to kiss butt. So they are well suited to each other.

4. I'm a teacher. That should suffice. |

I have been in my current district for almost 16 years. I have "gone through" 10 principals! I respected only ONE of them, and the board furloughed her! She found another position instead of returning. She was too professional for our district anyhow.
Another one I really like as a person. She is warm, motherly, sweet and still no-nonsense. She has been on extended sick leave because of stress. The rest were autocrats or buffoons.
I forgot to mention, I have also served under four superintendents in the past 16 years. The best of the lot was forced to retire because of differences with the school board. The other three (plus one assistant super) were empty suits.

6. I have had three in my working career ,, |
|
One was taking money from the petty cash drawer to play video poker, the other was a psychopath and the last one was a bully. The hardest lesson learned was whether or not the job was important enough for me to stay. The first two I left and the third was my most recent job, where I was laid off. Thankfully I start a new job next week (after a year and two months of desperately searching) .. so far, I like the owners, I just hope my first gut impression is correct .. I don't have the luxury to walk away, not in this economy. Good Luck!

then I decided that I'd rather quit a job than take psychotropic drugs so I could stand to go to work every day....

I report to 2 different people, and I get along very well with both.
We're having a major reorganization where I work, taking effect July 1 - I'll be moving to working for just one of the 2 I report to now, and she'll be moving to being our actin director.
I expect that will work out fairly well.

11. Most of my working life |
|
I've had bosses who didn't know diddly squat about how to use even basic functions on our computer systems. I've had bosses who would hire sweet young brainless bimbos, because they wanted to manage the place out of their pants. Even my current boss is pretty clueless most of the time.
The Peter Principle is alive and well.

He's a great guy and I highly respect him.
I will say that there are other administrative assistants I could do without, but thank god while I'm included in the group with them, I work on a different program so I'm in a completely different building. Some of those women drive me nuts.
edited to add: We're going through the silliest thing. It's an admin work load reorg. Basically a few of the women are lazy and not helpful, so instead of writing people up and firing them, they brought in this part of HR to do a full assessment of what each admin does and how can they "better organize the work around." Again, while I was included on this, it won't effect me since I'm on a different program.
