A Proposal that those who can shave our heads to protest the Gulf Oil Spill!!??
Edited on Wed May-19-10 09:28 PM by jimlup
A brave young woman in Florida did just that. It seems like a logical way to express our revulsion of this spill ... Though it would mostly just be a symbol ... we donate our hair to the spill cleanup!

This spill really upsets me and I'm feeling very frustrated in not being able to respond in some way.

Anyone agree with me on this one? I mean at the very least it emphasizes the point to the people who you are most likely to influence - those that interact with you on a daily basis.

2. I heard it's not really happening. They're not collecting hair.
I couldn't shave my head. But post pictures if you do.

3. Yeah, I may just do it.
Though they might not be accepting hair... at least it is one way to show our frustration.

If I do it (and if I want others to follow I guess I can't wait!) I'll post pictures ASAP!

4. Symbolism + conversation starter
In many Indian traditions, hair is removed(shaved, pulled out,cut off)
in times of mourning.
I did it when my only "child" enlisted, off to fight *'s war.

It generated alot of questions,
& I did not hesitate to say it was a very personal & profound act of despair.
It is also a constant reminder, of loss, pain, REALITY.

I have been thinking on this again..
If I did it for my Son, I can do it for my Mother.
