Republicans are just plain stupid

Boehner predicting that the GOP will pick up 100 house seats.

Gingrich predicting that the GOP will pick up 78 house seats (yes... he said that exact number).

Michael Steel predicting a GOP "tsunami".

In the average midterm election year, the party out of power picks up 24 seats.

What the Republicans have done with their silly braggadocio and over-the-top predictions is set themselves up so that anything short of taking over both houses of congress will be looked at as a repudiation of Republicans and an endorsement of Democrats and Obama.

Let's say the GOP picks up 25 house seats and 5 senate seats. Not an unreasonable prediction.

Because of the enormous expectations they've set for themselves, the media spin will be "Republicans Fail to Take Congress" and "Disappointed Republicans Wonder What Went Wrong" and "Obama Maintains Majorities in Both Houses, Plans to Use Political Capital" and so on....

Every time I hear Agent Orange (Boehner) say that he thinks the GOP will win 100 seats, I giggle because I'm sure the White House is loving that.

The GOP is raising the expectations of their base to unreachable heights... and when the GOP fails to get to those heights, it will be Steele and Boehner's necks in the guillotine.

Meanwhile... if the Dems only lose something like 10 house seats and 2 senate seats, it will be seen as a resounding Democratic victory - because Dems, say what you want about the leadership, have been smart enough to LOWER expectations.

I. Am. Absolutely. Loving. It.

1. When their prognosticatons fail miserably, they'll just pull a Lowden
And deny they ever said anything of the sort. Even confronted with video evidence, they'll seize on some minor point and deny, deny, deny. "I never said we'd pick up 78, said seven or eight seats. And I didn't say pick up, I said defend!"

2. not just "plain" stupid. Breathtakingly, astoundingly stupid, if you ask me.
There is nothing ordinary about their ignorance and vileness.

3. Cnn is saying that incumbents are in deep trouble
and it is the Obama effect. In other words, he and democrats are the ones stalling all the bills and legislation in congress. They are the ones who won't let appointees be voted on.

Isn't that a big bunch of you know what. They are getting as bad as Fox with their lies.

5. I disagree in one respect
Even if/when they fail to retake Congress, no matter how many seats they win, even it it's three seats, it will be spun by the mainstream corporate media as "Breathtaking Comeback by the Republicans!"

8. I agree with you there
Chris Todd droned on and on about Murtha's seat last night ... how this was the "bellweather" for November and suggesting that the Dems were in big trouble. When I went to bed last night, the numbers here on DU had the Dem ahead 60-40.

And this morning?? All I heard about was Rand Paul in Kentucky. Suddenly the special election that was the big predictor of November had fallen off the face of the earth.

I realize that all M$M is corporate owned and run, but they aren't even PRETENDING to do their jobs anymore. They are all worse than useless.

10. Dr. Samuel Johnson's right about Olson Johnson being right!
I'll go one step further and say the democrats could increase their numbers, and the spin from the media will be, "Democrats lose big as republicans keep their losses low on election night."

6. I doubt that.
The mainstream media has already decided on the narrative.

If the Republicans pick up 25 + 5 seats, it will be "disasterous" for the Democrats and "an outright repudiation of liberal ideology."

You can pretty much guarantee this will be the narrative regardless of what happens.

Just look at yesterday.
