Blumenthal

He has been an indefatigable supporter of veterans in this state. And btw even people who served in this country during the Vietnam War got a pin for service in the Vietnam war, as many vets pointed out in local NPR call-in shows today.

McMahon wants to change the subject from the trail of callous treatment, permanent brain injuries, affronts to taste if not ethics, and the shabbiest treatment around of the people who earned her money for her in WWE. That, apparently, is old news now. But so is this political tactic. Blumenthal has been going after the bad guys in this state in a way that I rarely see any interest elsewhere unless the malfeasance has already hit the news.

1. From CT also.
I will be supporting him in the fall.
Perhaps it is time to make an issue of the McMahon body count?

5. This native of Ct. also agrees.
He has been a superlative Attny General for many years now. I tend to look at the long picture, and the glass as half full!! What I think is going on here is some underhanded behind the scenes "dirty tricks" especially now that our Sec. of State who is running for Attny. General, has had her case overturned by the Ct. Superior Court. They are not including her years as Sec. of State in her tenure requirement for LAW EXPERIENCE !! They overturned a lower court's decision that said she WAS eligible. There are some BIG BUCKS floating around out there to sabotage the Dem's in this state. Could it be Ms. McMahon that's behind this???? It "looks, and smells like a pig" to me!!!

McMahon is absolutely behind this, and thanks for your testimony.
More proof this was a hit job. I'm not saying Blumenthal wasn't a bonehead, but it may have been unintentional. The r/w attacked, and all of a sudden he's a sullied candidate? This needs to be rethought, especially if he's such a good guy and has been for so long.

11. About that "pin" that Vietnam vets received
Edited on Thu May-20-10 01:29 AM by pinboy3niner
It's called the "Vietnam Service Medal." It was awarded by each of the uniformed service branches for service in, or in direct support of, ground operations in South Vietnam. It is a medal attached to a piece of ribbon, and is accompanied by the separate, less-formal version of the decoration, the "Vietnam Service Ribbon." (My current avatar is an example of the Vietnam Service Ribbon.)

The design and colors of the ribbon are modeled after the flag of the Republic of (South) Vietnam. Veterans who served elsewhere during the Vietnam Era (not in direct support of ground operations there) were not eligible for this award.

Among Vietnam vets, the medal or ribbon is kind of like a secret handshake. Not that anyone is keeping it secret--it's just not familiar to many outside of the military and veterans. Other conflicts, like Desert Shield/Storm, OEF and OIF, each have their own service medal/ribbon.

13. He is worth keeping. But is he electable ? Does he have
the cajones to fight back against McMahon & Company ? That's my concern. We can't afford to have another Republican Senator.

14. Cojones? He don't need no stinkin' cojones!
(Sorry--couldn't resist. :))

Blumenthal does have a record as a fighter, especially as CT Attorney General, according to CT DUers and others who know him and his record. According to someone who worked for him as Assistant AG, he wasn't afraid to go up against powerful interests:

"He has made huge strides — issuing an opinion that contraceptives must be covered by insurance; being the first attorney general to bring racketeering charges against Medicaid defrauders; bringing actions against tobacco companies and Microsoft — and quietly helped thousands of constituents who had problems obtaining insurance coverage or wage protection or child support."

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/20/opinion/l20blumenthal.html?hpw

Blumenthal had a 13-point lead over McMahon when the story broke; afterward, it dropped to a 3-point lead--but that was before serious pushback began coming from media fact-checkers and his supporters.

And, significantly, veterans in CT have continued to stand by him.
