I believe Democrats will hold both houses... but I also believe Harry Reid is going down... |
|
....so who's going to be the new majority leader of the Senate next January?
Basically, give me two answers: Your preferred choice and your expected choice
My preferred choice: Sherrod Brown
My expected choice: Chuck Schumer

I would agree it will be Schumer if for no other reason than the President is also from Illinois
Spreading out the influence and power is key.
I always thought the Republicans made a mistake in having their President, Senate Majority Leader and House Speaker all be from the same region. When that happens, the Party begins to look very regional and the focus of the Party is limited
The Republicans have become as conservative as they are because they went so regional House Speakers Gingrich (GA), Livingstone (LA)(Was supposed to be but resigned), DeLay (TX)
Senate: Lott (MS), Frist (TN) and McConnell (KY)

9. Forget spreading around the power. |
|
The Senate needs discipline to start passing progressive legislation. They need someone who will beat their asses until they vote on what Obama sends them. That's Dick Durbin.
Who cares if Republicans looked regional? Bush got his agenda through both chambers over and over again didn't he? That's the important thing. Academic notions about spreading around power won't get bills through the Senate.

unless it's a Diebold "victory" in Clark County (Las Vegas area) - since I seem to recall it being an issue there in the past.
Regardless of whether Reid still holds the seat or not, he should absolutely NOT be the majority leader next time around.
I'd like to see Russ Feingold get the job. Or Bernie Sanders, though they would probably keep him out since he's an independent. (the upside of that downside is that Lieberdouche is excluded for the same reason)
My main objection to Dick Durbin is that I don't think too much power should be in Chicago, though the fact that Durbin was honest about the banksters control over the Senate, leads me to hope he might do something about that, if given the opportunity.
Schumer would be as bad as Reid or Daschle, if not worse. Fuck that idea.

7. The senate leader/house speaker should ALWAYS be |
|
from a "safe" state, and should have a STRONG vantage point. Their voice should command attention, and they should also be telegenic, so that when they come on the screen, people pay attention to what they have to say.
This soft-spoken (Daschle/Reid) awe-shucks routine is OLD!
Senator Mumbles Milquetoast aka harryreid, needs to step down..or be removed (if he even gets re-elected)
It's an extra feather in the cap of righties when they "take down" a speaker or leader..

Dick Durbin. He has the guts and talent for it. He's the best choice to finally get things moving in the Senate.
