Does anyone remember the NYT and other media being as obsessed with Vitter or Ensign as they are ...
Edited on Thu May-20-10 06:43 AM by NNN0LHI
... with Blumenthal? Why didn't they stay on those two Rethug hypocrites until they drummed them out of office?

There are criminal possibilities with both Vitter and Ensign yet the NYT and the rest of our scum media never mentions it anymore. I even see Vitter on cable shows acting like nothing ever happened. And no one asks him if he should consider retiring after his associating with a prostitution ring that the feds took down using the RICO Act? Why is that? Wouldn't that be the first question anyone with half a brain would ask him if they had the chance? But no he gets a free pass.

Blumenthal is a non-story to me. I didn't even know who he was until a few days ago. But the media seems to want me to know every single detail about him. Why is that?

Please someone explain this discrepancy to me.

4. Blumenthal didn't do anything illegal
Lying isn't illegal (yet) in this country. Vitter and Ensign engaged in arguably illegal behavior.

I do agree that is is hypocritical, but perhaps the different nature of the offenses (along with party affiliation) is the answer to the difference.

5. Of course not, silly! Wouldn't want Billo to accuse them of being Liberal.
I stopped wondering why long ago. I just accept what is - that the Corporate M$M is to the Republic Party as Pravda and Isvestia were to the 1975 Soviet Communist Party.

6. Could it possibly be that 1. the NYT did not break the story; and 2. It is not going to sell NYT's
First off, this is one of the bigger stories that the NYT has broken in a while. In is in their best interest to keep this story front and center so they can promote that they were the ones to break it.

Second, how many NYT do you think are sold in CT compared to Louisiana and Nevada? This is the a sotry that is in the heart of their most profitable circulation, so of course they are going to keep up on it to sell papers. The Vitter and Ensign scandals weren't going to sell a lot of NYT's, so they did not follow them as hard.

7. A reputable newspaper would be unconcerned with what "sells"
They would report the news accurately and fairly.

Thats their job.

10. Dude, the NYT is a corperation and its job is to make money.
Whether we like it or not, that how it is. If the NYT thinks it can make more money off one story than another, they going to cover the story that makes them money. I am sure that the Louisiana and Nevada papers covered Vitter and Ensign at length becuase they could make a lot of money off it.

Not saying I like it, though.

11. Just so everyone knows the NYT first business is making money & reporting news is secondary its OK
I have no problem with that as long as people realize it.
