i just wrote to the president.
i know i might as well be spitting on the ocean of oil in the gulf but anyway.

i am convinced that the only way to even begin to make this right is to take over BP or put them out of business. i am outraged at the lying that is going on and at how it appears that BP has even got the Coast Guard watching THEIR backs instead of ours?! http://www.healthygulf.org/201005191299/blog/bp-s-oil-drilling-disaster-in-the-gulf-of-mexico/video-cbs-reporters-threatened-with-arrest

maybe if a couple million or so of us make it clear to the president that drastic action is required, he will respond. maybe.

1. Isn't British Petroleum... British? I don't think we can take them over, or put them
out of business (unless the cleanup costs and fines do that to them). I DO think we can prohibit them from drilling off of our shores, though.

2. they may be british, or not,
but they're in our waters, right? if we can't put them out of business i would think we can put them out of our water. of course so much of it is now full of "their" oil, i could certainly be wrong.

3. So You Just Wrote to the Guy
Whose lax oversight of MMS and Interior allowed this to take place? Why are so many of my progressive brethren giving Obama a pass on this? You may as well have written Bush asking him to take over Halliburton. Puhlease! Obama is a big a part of the problem as BP on this.

5. okay, but he is still the president
should i write to the last one? maybe a thank you note for setting this up. but i can still exercise my right to air grievances with the president we have. especially when he's dragging his feet/ ignoring a catastrophe/ kissing up to big oil/ name your poison. what better time?

7. Fair Enough
As long as you realize that he was a part of the problem. Yeah, exercise your write as a citizen to rightly bitch at those who have dropped the ball while "representing" us.

9. Why Do I Get the Sinking Feeling
That he is much more able on the campaign trail than he is actually governing? (sigh)

10. i dunno,
maybe because he's reacting like a limp stalk of broccoli in the face of a huge catastrophic disaster that is just rolling along unimpeded while the world tries to watch?

he is a great speaker, no doubt about that.

4. His inaction is pretty indefensible.
Edited on Thu May-20-10 09:52 AM by marylanddem

With every day that passes, the inevitable comparisons to Bush's Katrina will become louder. He needs to freaking get ahold of this disaster, take over BP, throw them out of the Gulf, send in the freaking Navy - anything but play it cool or whatever the hell he thinks he's doing. And I'm sure you, like I, supported & campaigned for him.
