LAS VEGAS -- A backpack exploded in a parking garage attached to a Las Vegas hotel early Monday, killing a man who had picked it up and injuring another person, authorities said.

3. Who'se To Say It's al Qaeda Related?
With so little information available so far, who is to say that the bomb was related to al Qaeda or some other Jihadist group? It might very well be some "Christian" group virulently opposed to reproductive rights or gambling.

4. Not saying it was.. just that all the money wasted on airports
is so "last week".. AQ and other terrorists do not usually repeat in the same way. the whole point of terror, is to catch people off guard.. and I cannot think of a more "off guard" place than a vegas casino..packed with people wandering around looking for a place to lose their money :)

10. OT, but: One could hope the damage done to small children lugging heavy backpacks
will stop soon. No doubt, we will have to make back packs illegal as they are a very convenient way to carry explosives.

It makes me nuts to see small kids lugging backpacks that weigh 1/3 to 1/2 as much as they do. Maybe we can do some good with the latest bomber tactic and get those kids unloaded so they can run and play again ;)

Terrorists with backpacks, suitcases, rental trucks are bad. Terrorists with expensive briefcases, sitting in boardrooms calling the shots and setting policy are the REAL threat to the world.

14. I KNOW.. I was flabberghasted when I found out my kids would have to
haul their books around like little mules.

When I was in school every desk had its own book and each kid got a set to keep at home..and we had lockers too, so no one had to carry anything.

I always felt so sorry for them.. and those things weighed a LOT !!

5. it's most likely just some asshole
looking to cause trouble.

why would any self-respecting terror group with decent resources waste time on a 4am explosion in a parking lot? not a big attention getter.

How they know that, they're not saying yet apparently.

6. Interesting that this would have happend in the parking deck, rather than on the
casino floor or theater, if the goal was to kill and maim a lot of people.

I can't imagine too many places in the world with more camera surveillance and security than a casino floor.

9. Sounds to me like the backpack was left in a place
where a specific person (target of a hit) would pick it up. Looks like that's what happened.

15. How long did it take to get the Unibomber
and he was not a terrorist....the al-queada kind. Just remember the type of politics the republicans preach has created their own brand of terrorist.

Also back in the 80's or 90's a guy blew up one of the casino's because he wanted to extort them out of millions of dollars.

Mafia.

Strange how we always managed to try those people in public, and never let our desire to "secure" information sources present an obstacle to the regular operation of American jurisprudence, yes?
