Someone from this administration - Salazar? should be providing daily updates about what's going on
in the Gulf. The good and the bad. The truth. Not talking about why it happened, or what the future of oil drilling will be - but just what is actually going on each day WITHOUT any spin or fingerpointing. It could be written or it could be a short video.

Kinda like a Presidential Daily Briefing BUT provided to all news links for them to report.

They need to show they are involved and in control, or at least act like they are.

If I was in charge -lol - that's what I would have them do.

1. agree, but independent scientific assessments would be more credible at this point

3. Wouldn't it be nice if that was included in the briefings? The scientist said this, BP is doing that
the coast guard is doing this.... Giving us the daily briefing of what is being done.

Just something simple, concise.

2. But that would be putting protecting the public before protecting big oil. Can't have that!

4. It would only happen if BP were taking its orders from the government...
...and not the other way around.

Haha - but why shouldn't BP report to Salazar on what their daily plan is and in turn we are briefed
on that?

7. Agreed...why? Why are they the ones (meaning BP) providing distorted video
of the spill, lying about the amount of oil spewing out, trying to arrest people who try to get the vidoe of this HUGE disaster...this is seriously phucked up.

5. This is the sort of complaint against how the Obama Administration is handling the gulf crisis
that I can get behind.

ABSOLUTELY 100% LEGITIMATE CRITICISM!

11. I totally agree, and that should be part of what is being shared on a daily basis.
What I am trying to say, what I wish was going on is everything is included in a concise manner. But someone in the Obama administration should be the main point person on this, that they tell us what is being done - from all sides. If an independent scientific team disagrees with what BP is reporting - so be it. That should be made public - daily - NO spin.

Politics is perception, and I perceive the handling of this oil disaster looks like a 3 ring circus. I just really feel in order for this administration to not be hurt politically by this they should be assimilating all the information on all points and providing the public with a daily update....is that too much to ask?

12. It was your thread that got my brain going this morning on this.
I want this administration to be successful - if they don't get ahead of this - if even just politically - this could bite them in the ass.

9. Salazar's replacement should hit the ground running on exactly that.
Some underling retiring and splitting off MMS just ain't gonna cut it.

14.  Ah but that would require keeping the Admin commitment to transparency
which so far , has only been implemented in those areas no one needs or wants to know. Maria Cantwell indicated her dissatisfaction about the transparency in Congress recently. The lack of genuine transparency seems endemic to the system. this is why we can see a guest list but not have the information exchanged in meetings with Big Pharma revealed, kinda like the Cheney Energy meetings.
You are asking for "real information" that might be valuable and this Admin, like the others, isn't sure it is necessary for you to know or that they want you to have it.
