Randi Rhodes' jab at Rachel Maddow.
Randi was talking about Rand Paul and the Louiville Courier Journal's article about his views on the Civil Rights Act.

She only just mentioned Maddow's interview with Paul, and how Rachel "finally got around to reading the article eventhough it's been out since April."

especially compared to Madow

17. She and Maddow were at Air America
and Maddow broke out into the "mainstream". Randi is good, but too shrill for the mainstream who will not tolerate a left-wing Limbaugh (although in fairness to Randi, she is more fact-based).

Rachel makes her point while not getting nasty. Randi has never mastered that trick.

Curious about what she has to say about Senator Franken these days.

I didn't know she even still had a job. There was a time when I found her interesting, but then it seems she became more interested in attacking her callers and colleagues than the Right.

16. She's still on. She has her old spot, on the right wing network.
She hasn't been insulting her callers lately. Her thing lately has been to try to pull together the regular working people, left and right. I don't think it is feasible, and sometimes she is insulting to us on the left more than the right. I still listen to her because I like talk radio.

5. Randi's Archilles' heel.
She's incredibly petty and self-centered, and it hurt her in the end.

It's a shame, because she actually had a lot of talent and potential as a talk show host, but she totally blew it on her ego roughly around 2007 or so.

43. Randi's malapropisms drove me nuts
I still tune in once in a while, but besides being shrill and not a good listener, she would misuse words and couldn't pronounce simple words, like "subsidize."

Of course, I'm guessing that Rachel being younger and more telegenic doesn't sit well with Randi either.

25. First, I Would Not Call it Much of a Slight
If they both got in a room, they'd be best buds, I guarantee you.

Second, I love them both, Randi Rhoades too, with all of her hyperbolic shrillness. I would listen to her, but she comes on at a time that it is inconvenient for me to listen.

I really like Stephanie Miller and the mooks better than either of these folks.

I don't think the MSM dislikes Randi because she's shrill and outspoken--I think it's because she says the things that are not allowed on the media. There are clearly filters, filters that don't exist as strongly on the radio.

Listen to Schultz on the radio, then listen to him on supposedly liberal, MSNBC--you'll find him way more liberal on his radio show. I do.

You just can't talk about a few things on the tube, spending less on defense, or being against the war, or ascribing oil, or geography next to Iran, or pipeline routes as the real reason for wars. You aren't allowed to talk drug war, or negatively asparage the drug war to any real degree on the tube. You can't really disagree with the wars, to any real degree. They don't allow much talk of how corporations are controlling every f*cking thing on the tube.

Then there are Chomsky's filters, some the same as above. Can't talk about advertisers, Pentagon experts, flak...Radio, well that's allowed just a bit more latitude.

Oh yea, you WILL NOT talk about free trade being a bad thing, or unions being a good thing, or globalization actually being the direct cause of the huge recession we're in right now.

27. She's a bit like a Female Mike Malloy
Honestly I find Malloy at times hard to listen to, but it doesn't mean I don't welcome most of the stuff he says as refreshingly honest.

We're all caught in this mainstream construct, and both Malloy and Rhodes I think come way closer to revealing the ugly truth about the U.S. and its government, and who the government actually serves.

I think it is the ugliness we are shown, through them, that some of us object to, rather a shooting of the messenger, by our insults. They deserve to be lauded for their honesty in the face of all the delusion.

I've also heard that her boyfriend (whom she mentions often) is some sort of DLC tool, so that probably has a negative effect on her opinion as well.

I pretty much gave up on her several months ago when she wasted an entire show bitching about Keith Olbermann's show on the despicable state of "health care" in this country, most of which came from his own experiences dealing with his father's illness.

I do have concerns that she sells out from time to time to play corporate mainstream ball, but overall, she is the best MSM reporter going.

The Chicago market had a chance to compare Randi with Thom. In terms of academic background, interst in guests, ability to listen and over all content of show, Thom wins. Randi almost never allowed oppposing ideas to be presented, while Thom always does. Randi, you got the impression, never lestened to opponents, Thom almost always does. Randi is shrill, and well neither Thom or Rachel is. There is much more, but that is enough

Not that there's anything wrong with that. But anyone who listens to her for more than a few minutes realizes that she is in the business she is in because she has a good radio voice and the gift of gab, not because she is exceptionally bright.
