Brother-in-law of murdered prosecutor speaks out about McKay firing (US Attorney scandal)
from Jesus' General:

Now I learn through these Internets Tubes that John McKay may have been fired for paying too much attention to the assassination of his fellow federal prosecutor, instead of filing bogus voter-fraud suits.

It appears the DOJ (who sent no reps to Tom’s memorial service, btw, even though he was the first active Federal DA to be murdered, and this just one month after 9/11) was directed to minimize the hunt for Tom’s killer because it would harm the Republican Party’s NRA base, and inflame gun-control advocates.

I don’t speak for the Wales family. Several of them still lose sleep when the case re-makes the news, fearful for the safety of Tom’s children, now grown. And I see their point, though the children are as brave as he.

But if the DOJ is now in the business of ignoring the murders of dedicated prosecutors who spent a career contributing to the community and standing up for the powerless to better win the next election, then it’s time to clean house. If I had been murdered, instead, and my case swept under the rug, Tom would have charged in like an angry wolf.

I married his sister, you see.

2. A little bit more.
And so I ask you, gentle reader, to call or write your Congresspersons, especially if they sit on the Judiciary Committees; demand they ask each DOJ employee, parading through in this shameful affair, what they know or knew of reasons for McKay’s firing.

If this White House is willing to murder Justice for power, we should replace them. Now.

5. When people try to denigrate the DOJ investigation, bring up this case.

6. The news story, for those who may have missed it over the weekend
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/04/AR2007050402169.html?nav=rss_politics

. . .

A U.S. attorney in Seattle was singled out for dismissal in part because he clashed with senior Justice Department officials over the investigation of a federal prosecutor's murder, and he was recommended for removal 18 months earlier than was previously known, according to newly disclosed documents and interviews.

D. Kyle Sampson, former chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, told congressional investigators that he believes he may have recommended former U.S. attorney John McKay's removal in March 2005 because of conflicts with senior Justice officials over the investigation of the 2001 murder of federal prosecutor Tom Wales, according to congressional aides and Sampson's attorney.

Several officials familiar with the investigation said McKay and other officials in Seattle believed that senior Justice officials were not paying enough attention to the case. Sampson did not cite specifics, saying only that McKay had demanded actions that led to conflicts, congressional aides familiar with his account said.

The suggestion of a connection between the firing and the unsolved Wales murder case generated angry reactions from McKay and others in western Washington yesterday.

"The idea that I was pushing too hard to investigate the assassination of a federal prosecutor -- it's mind-numbing" that they would suggest that, McKay said. " . . . If it's true, it's just immoral, and if it's false, then the idea that they would use the death of Tom Wales to cover up what they did is just unconscionable."

8. Chuck Schumer has a ferocious prosecutory style during the
questioning re: the Attorney firings. He is also my Senator. I called his office and mentioned that questions surrounding McKay's firing ought to perhaps follow along these lines.

11. It's true the site is filled with satirical posts from the General,
but there are also very serious, straightforward posts of which this is one.

Still, will do my best to verify that the author is who he says he is.

13. He's real
The post is real. The name is a psuedonym. It's his online identity. He used it for two reasons. First, he is known by that name in many blog comment threads. By using it, he is allowing those of us who have read his comments for years to judge his credibility--it's impeccable. Second, although this post blows his anonimity with a single google search, he's still uncomfortable signing his real name. As a psuedonumous blogger myself, I undestand that.

I've known Rev. Jerry for a long time. I'd trust him if even if I hadn't already known that he was Wales' brother in law, but, in fact, I've known it for a couple of years. That's long before it became news in the McKay firing. He invited me to a wales foundatiion fundraiser a few years back.
