Why was Cheonan sailing off disputed North Korean waters?

The Cheonan was a warship with missiles, cannons and torpedoes. Tension between North and South Korea has been high for a while - they're still technically at war as they never signed a peace agreement in the 1950s, just a ceasefire.

This warship was sailing near an island less than 10 miles from North Korea's coast. The coastal area is disputed. Sailing in to the area was a provocative act. Don't sail warships into disputed waters less than 10 miles from a country you're still technically at war with if you don't want to pay the consequences.

All the media coverage of this, no mention of the provocation of this. What would the US do if the Chinese Navy set sail and started doing war games 20 miles off the coast of California? I wouldn't want to think about it. What a double standard.

Suggesting so, and playing apologist for North Korean, doesn't make the alleged act any more justifiable. It is also just sadly ludicrous.

The coastal area is disputed? What doesn't North Korea dispute?


North Korea has been aggressive on how many occasions? How many people have they abducted?


Before standing up for the poor beleaguered North Koreans you should look at their aggressive history.
