A Gate-Crashing Rodent?
May 20, 2010 6:35 PM

Ann Compton and Sunlen Miller reports:

As President Obama spoke out about Wall Street reforms, in an attempt to control what he’s at times called the “fat-cat bankers” – a small little rodent ran just two steps away from the president’s podium on the steps of the sun-splashed Rose Garden today.

The rodent – either a mouse or a rat-- apparently made two dashes, once immediately before the president emerged from the door of the Oval Office and again during the president’s remarks. Mr. Obama did not seem to notice the little animal.

1. Hah, impeccable timing that rodent has
Something similar happened on the last episode of Survivor this season, when they set fire to their shelter I noticed a rat or mouse ran away in the background.

4. It's a Goldman Sachs Rat!
Sounds like the Obamas should have gotten a cat instead of a dog.

9. That is a "wild" animal. It is not a domestic pest rat or mouse. It looks
like a vole or a large shrew of some sort. I hope they leave it alone. It's kind were probably there before the White House. Hopefully a DU mammalogist will id it.

I have some contact with mammals, but wouldn't go so far as to call myself a mammologist.

10. looks like a shrew
My next door neighbor's cat catches these little boogers all the time and leaves them in my yard as gifts. While I appreciate the thought I would really much prefer chocolate. Little dead rotting critters that my dog wants to eat isn't really to my liking.

They must be pretty dump little critters since she catches them by the dozens but can't manage to catch any other type of critters.

15. Doesn't surprise me one bit.
After all, DC is crawling with rodents. I believe the proper term is Rodentia Lobbyista. Rodentia comes from the latin term rodere which means "to gnaw." Lobbyista comes from the latin term lobbiere which means "and continue to chew away until you have extracted every single dime from the poor and working class in order to give it to the ruling class and thus maintain the status quo."
