NOAA chief says it's not appropiate to speculate on estimates

"...Congress as well as independent scientists have been demanding for days that the government agencies or BP update their estimate for the spill.

BP claimed yesterday that a tube inserted into the broken pipe was collecting some 5,000 gallons of oil a day – but that is the total amount BP initially claimed was leaking from the well. Video footage continues to show oil billowing from the pipe.

The NOAA chief, Jane Lubchenco, has also tried to brush aside demands to produce an estimate for how much oil has now entered the gulf, and where it might be headed.

"At this point, it would not be appropriate to speculate on what that estimate is," she told a conference call with reporters last night."

5. "or BP"?
Congress is asking that BP provide the estimate of the damage they caused.

Next up, Congress demands that the manufacturers who put lead in childrens' toys provide a report of whether or not that causes any harm to children.

7. BP's initial "estimate" was NOT 5,000 barrels per day.

...snip...

A White house spokesperson said that accidents like this do happen, but that does not make the Obama government back off the plans of expanding drilling offshore. The coast guards were relying on BP’s stats on the Oil leak reports, as it was told that 1000 barrels a day were spewing out. However the big shock came when the government found out that it was around 5000 barrels a day that was spilling into the sea.

8. Estimate
63,000,000 Gallons so far.

That's at 50,000 barrels a day x 30 days x 42 gallons per barrel.

A fine of $1,000 per gallon (or cost to clean up each gallon)= 63,000,000,000

That's a fair amount of moola.

BP is going down.
