1. If he were a white boy, he'd not be spending a day in prison
Honestly, from the story, it sounds as if it was a case of bad judgment in a kid. He and his friend found a gun (and being young boys, thought it was cool) and then this guy scared them and they acted like the little kids they were.

So, his life is ruined over a mistake. That sucks.

2. Isn't 70 years in prison for a 15 year old the equivalent of life in prison?

1. The crime was ATTEMPT, not murder.
2. The penalty contradicts this week's Supreme Court judgment even if it were murder:

3. unfortunately
even if the sentence is reversed or shortened, any time in prison can turn a young man into a hardened criminal

4. Talk about intent this part says it all
We were told by the family that the judge listened to the information provided as he witnessed that Shimeek had family members from as far away as New York and South Carolina there to support him. The family members are very well spoken.

geez I'm surprised they mention that the family wasn't eating chitterlings or watermelon either
