Bwaaaaaaaaaaaah Joe Scum says this was the worst

The stunning result should telegraph two warnings to Republicans. The first is a reminder that while voters' ardor toward the Democratic Party might have cooled, this has not led to a passionate embrace of the GOP. There's a splash-back effect from unceasing attacks against the evil empire known as Washington: Voters notice that Republicans live there, too.

The second warning is that the Tea Party movement does not intend to become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party. Strategists who hoped to use the movement's energy and passion as weapons against the Democrats in the fall should realize that many Tea Party types see the GOP as fundamentally no different.

What does any of this mean for November? The Democrats should still expect to lose seats in both houses. But this week, the GOP lost a special House election that it should have won -- if conditions for the party are really as favorable as the leadership says, that is. And the Tea Party movement, after thwarting the Democrats' best-laid plans in Massachusetts, did the same for Republicans in Kentucky.

The GOP shouldn't measure the drapes in the Capitol just yet.

1. I think independents will move toward the Democratic side this fall, as the tea baggers
will be too strange for them. And most identify the tea baggers as Republicans.

Plus, I still believe most Americans remember who drove this country into the ditch, and most can see which party is fighting to prevent ANYTHING from happening. Most people want change, and they know that can't be brought about by saying NO to everything, like the Republicans have been doing.

In the absence of any new ideas, the Republicans are trying to sell the 2007 model as the new, improved 2010 model. And most people can see the rust under the fenders, so they know it's not really new.

2. If this all falls the way you see it, it will mean that the tea baggers will
be more and more a collection of racist bigots and fringe kooks. Any sane people who joined them earlier because of fears about the deficit will drift away, alienated by the baggers' virulence...

6. I watched TIm Kaine at the National Press Club
on Wednesday and he is sure using that great Obama analogy about the car going into the ditch.

I can see the ads in front of me.
Images of cars reversing back to Jim Crow, images of cars reversing back to pre-seat belts. The possibilities are endless.

4. the public is more liberal than either party
...if liberal means holding assholes accountable for their crimes and abuse of citizens of this nation.

younger voters are sick of right-wing economic shit from BOTH PARTIES.

so, buy a clue, dems... and you can't buy it from Wall Street or BP.

5. "I have...a message from the Tea Party...We've come to take our government back."

Yeah, back to the tenth century.

Paul, an ophthalmologist and political novice...
That's really what going to do him in--it's already clear that his only qualification for politics is his pedigree. Never mind his bizzaro world-caliber political tone-deafness: he didn't bother to prepare for Rachel Maddow's show even though he not only appeared there previously, he did so to announce his candidacy.

Paul's candidacy became a cause celebre for the national Tea Party movement, and he whipped Grayson in Tuesday's primary by 24 points.
I'm glad Grayson lost. But I think it had more to do with "real" Republican voters staying home than a "whipping" by the teagbaggers.

The Tea Party movement does not intend to become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party. Strategists who hoped to use the movement's energy and passion as weapons against the Democrats in the fall should realize that many Tea Party types see the GOP as fundamentally no different.
But seriously, folks, therein lies our strategy: Just as we glued McCain to Bush in '08, we must have the libertarians, the teabaggers, and the GOP glued together by this fall.

P.S. Here's where you can contribute to Rand's opponent Jack Conway and Blanche Lincoln's opponent Bill Halter, even if you don't live in their states.
