4. Words are everything. if Blumie would only have said "during" instead of "in" Viet Nam, he
would have been fine.

5. But as more of this unfolds, aren't you getting the creepy feeling that this
whole thing was a hatchet job (as Howard Dean described it) in cahoots with McMahon?

Did you see the article citing all of the CT journalists who have covered Blumenthal at literally thousands of events over his 20 year career and who said they NEVER heard him refer to being "in" Vietnam in any of his speeches?

11. Ah, so it was an evil plot by evil journalists trying to get
a cunning, evil attorney general to become a U.S. Senator! Sort of like "The Manchurian Candidate"?

I guess it fooled me all these years living in CT too...silly me...and those silly vets Dick helped, they must be evil and plotting too!

Your alternate universe is strange indeed.

BTW, whereabouts in CT do you live and how long have the McMahon's been your special friends?

21. OK, but you said your family members live in CT and was just asking
what horrible thing did Dick Blumenthal do to THEM, since you seem to believe that Dick was putting something over on us here in CT.

Personally, I think you have fallen for the line given you by the MSM...

24. I told you the NYT fooled me for a while
Why would I continue to believe them when DUers have posted the truth.
I think he should sue them.
Ratigan just destroyed the NYT by playing more excerpts from the speech and showing the swimming evidence. He admitted that he had attacked him based on the NYT story and now felt the NYT and Madame Wrestling ought to be investigated.

14. Sounds about right. I must also admit I have not been following story
closely but like many, I did watch that soundbite and cringe -- a knee jerk reaction. I hope he gets the benefit of the doubt. In light of... his career of commitment to veterans, the use of a sneaky out of context soundbyte and the conspiratorial tag teaming by a campaign and a newspaper.

10. listening to npr i heard that he said in vietnam at beginning of sentence then later said in vietnam
era or somethng like that. that he just forgot to stick in the era at the first vietnam statement and they only pulled that part of the quote, not giving him the rest of it.

admittedly, i have not been following the story.

6. It didn't take long for poor Linda McMahon
to once more come across as a bumbling moron did it? A political dyanamo only still in the race because she can fund it herself with money that probably belongs more to the stockholders of the POS company she and her idiot husband own.

7. The NYT withheld vital information from the public that George W
was spying on people and AT&T was loving it. As far as I am concerned, the NYT is just a branch of the NSA.

16. He's very popular because of what he's done for people in CT.
I knew him from my days with Planned Parenthood as a major gifts officer. Dick and Cindy were on our Greenwich Committee to plan our big party each spring. They were donors as were her parents (also of Greenwich), Isabel and Peter Malkin, who are very wealthy (he once owned the Empire State Building). Despite their wealth they are very liberal and generously support liberal causes.

Dick Blumenthal has literally been on "our" side of every issue we have: women's rights, environmentalism, anti corporate skullduggery and corruption, consumer rights and safety, veterans, you name it. I'm sure that Obama wants him in the Senate.

It is unthinkable to me and my fellow liberals that Dick would coldly and craftily lie about his military record. He has gone to bat for individual military members and their families to get them benefits and generally help them out. He has never failed them in any way.

My husband and I have been heartsick for 3 days now. When I see good liberals like Bill Press rush to judgment I am flabbergasted. If we get Linda McMahon because of this, you will see such bitching and moaning on DU about how awful, terrible CT has inflicted ANOTHER bad Senator on "us." Yet some of these same DUers are screaming for Blumenthal's head!

To say I am totally disgusted is an understatement...

22. His record means more
than the NYT hit piece. He has supported the people and now it's time to give him support. It's hard to trust anyone in politics these days but he does have the record to prove himself and that should count for a lot. If this were a Republican we would never have heard a thing and it would have been minimalized, time we learn to do the same. Come the fall moveon will probablly have the phone banks for him, mine don't need help, the election right now is pretty well settled in NY, the GOP is still trying to find a sacrificial candidate to run against Gillibrand and Cuomo.

Since I'm retired I'll go in and call in the pm to the other old folks, which is what I did for Ned Lamont. Only I hope for a better outcome this time! Good luck in NY! :hi:

15. In March 2010 he sued Moody's for tainted ratings
UPDATE 3-Connecticut sues Moody's, S&P for "tainted" ratings

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN1013603420100310

NEW YORK, March 10 (Reuters) - Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal sued two of the largest U.S. rating companies on Wednesday "for knowingly assigning tainted credit ratings" to risky bonds backed by subprime loans.

Connecticut's lawsuit targets Moody's Investors Service and Standard & Poor's. Blumenthal said in a statement the rating agencies' practices "enabled the worst economic downturn in the nation since The Great Depression."

He continued, "These credit rating agencies gave the best ratings money could buy -- catering to their powerful investment bank clients, rather than objectively rating risky bonds."

Investors, including individuals, banks, mutual funds, insurance companies, hedge funds and pension funds "were misled into believing that these credit ratings were independent and objective, and lost money on investments they might have avoided if told the truth," he said.

(end snip)

Something fishy indeed. I think they couldn't find anything to Spitzer him with, so they tried to Acorn him, only they didn't have much time. IMHO.

17. So, we can expect a front page apology from the NYT just
like the apology that was dragged out of them for what they wrote about ACORN, although come to think of it, I don't remember that, I think it was pretty half-hearted after refusing to do so until the demands began to grow.

This is why we need real journalists, people who can do a little research before publishing a front-page story like this.

This is very good for Blunenthal though. His campaign can use it very much to his advantage.
