Paul vs Conway: Fun while it lasted?

Kentucky Voter Turnout Numbers Spark Debate

ABC News.com:
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine said today that voter turnout numbers in the state of Kentucky were the aspect of Tuesday’s election contests which surprised him the most. "...(T)he Kentucky primary drew more votes for the Democratic loser than for the Republican winner...(T)hat tells me something about Democratic energy that is a little bit different than what some are saying..."

"If that surprises Tim Kaine, then he doesn’t know very much about Kentucky politics," Paul adviser Jesse Benton told ABC News. "In November, elections in Kentucky come down to independent voters and substantial numbers of registered Democrats who vote Republican...Despite having a nearly two-to-one registration advantage for Democrats...Kentucky went 57-to-41 percent for John McCain over Barack Obama..."

I'm ignoring the Rassmussen poll I've seen, partly because I know they skew Republican, but mostly because it was taken Wednesday night. But will they vote for Rand anyway, or does Jack Conway have a realistic chance of pulling this out?

P.S. Here's where you can contribute to Rand's opponent Jack Conway and Blanche Lincoln's opponent Bill Halter, even if you don't live in their states.

a microphone I'm hoping it won't even be close.

on edit: you can bet that the puke establishment are, as we speak, giving him lessons in the proper republican methods of hiding outright racist messages.

2. Jesse Benton = Idiot
Kaine did not compare registration figures, he compared primary turnout.

And yes, Rasmussen polls ought to be ignored.

3. It's going to be very hard for Conway

First of all, the seat in question was occupied by one of the most conservative men in the Senate. But Bunning was/is very unpopular in Kentucky (that's why he's not running) and had a very close call in 2004 against the man Conway beat in the Dem primary.

The voters will likely lap up Paul's "you don't want no gov't homo tellin' you nothin' nohow" message.

But if Conway can effectively press Paul on some of his more unsavory positions (no Dept. of ED, mine safety inspections are for pussies, farmers are basically Socialists, etc.), he could sway large blocks of Independents and The Middle.

Also, Conway was actually born and raised in Kentucky, so I'm sure that'll be a talking point.

It'll be interesting to see how the national party offices handle this one. It's officially a hold campaign for Republicans, with Democrats trying to steal. Even though they will be loathe to do so, national Republicans are going to have to support Paul. And I'm sure he'll leverage his dad's network of minions to his advantage. On the Conway side, is the DNC really going to commit funds to a race that is so lopsided in the polls? Even if there is a legit shot of a steal? Who knows?

4. November's a loooong ways awaay
The energy on the Democratic side is indeed "a little bit different than what some are saying." Mostly because the media have once again settled on their favored narrative, and right now it's that Republicans are energized and Democrats are dispirited, all evidence to the contrary is cheerfully ignored.

The Bluegrass State just might be fixin' to turn a little bluer.
