Rush is on the Ropes! Let's give him a push
Rush must be feeling the heat of this whole "Barrack the Magic Negro" outrage. He just spent the first 1.5 hours of his show trying to explain away his little "Minstrel Show". Even went so far as to call out 3 local news figures from channel 13 in Sacramento (they may need some love, since I'm sure Rush' knuckle-dragging fans will start sending them death threats).

Maybe it's the pressure from GM and other advertisers, but Rush is in a pickle. He can't come out and apologize for "Barrack the Magic Negro", because his "Dildo-Heads" brains would explode at Rush giving in to pressure...and if he continues running the racist parody, he's going to have to constantly explain how "Barrack the Magic Negro", complete with Al Sharpton in full "Amos and Andy" mode is not a racist piece of shit.

Ever since this prick came on the air, I've been wondering when he would step over the line, become a pariah, and be reduced to "Fat Celebrity Weight Loss Challenge" fame. That day may have finally come.

It's hard to tell.

- Here's a guy who is the most divisive person in America, and yet, he's still on over 500 radio stations.

- Here's a guy who could not serve in Vietnam because of a festering boil on his ass, and yet, he's still on Armed Forces Radio.

- Here's a guy who made fun of a person with a debilitating disease, and yet, GM still finds in beneficial to sponsor his show.

This may be the time he's bitten on a little more than he can chew. I predict that within a week, if we keep the pressure up, GM will drop him, he'll be forced to apologize and he'll stop playing "Barrack the Magic Negro". After that, it's just a matter of time until he begins shedding radio stations, like an Old English Sheepdog sheds hair in August in Pascagoula, MS.

2. The pressure on The Bloated Pig will not start with his fans but his advertisers.
If he's tap dancing, it's because his sponsors told him to. I'm guessing that the old fatass can't imagine living without his gazillion dollar contract.

20. I have no such proof. However, if we examine his responses today...
... there are only a few alternatives:

1. He has developed a conscience about being a racist, intolerant bastard. Not likely.
2. His knuckledragging fans have been leaving in droves because of the insults to Obama, Sharpton, and Blacks in general. No effing way.
3. What's left? The single thing that matters to the Bloated One: $$$$

Send 'em an e-mail and let 'em know they made a STUPID mistake sponsoring Rush Limbaugh, especially when their sales are already in the tank. They just lost 1/2 of their possible market.

15. Could you imagine
millions of dildo-heads turning on their radios at 1200 and finding that Rush isn't there?

Can't you just see them looking forelornly at their radios, drool dripping down the front of their shirts, confused 'cause Rush ain't tellin' 'em what makes a good "Murikan".

To borrow from Dr. Seuss; "they'd puzzle, and puzzle 'til their puzzler was sore", then they might think "there is something more", maybe Rush wasn't right, maybe he was wrong all along, maybe the Dems aren't part of the communist throng. Maybe that policeman that lives next door, belongs to a Union so he won't end up poor.

Without Rush to confuse them with lies and deceit, they may be able to stand on their feet. They'd move out of mom's basement and find their own way. Then their hearts would grow three sizes that day. Once their hearts didn't feel so squeezed and so sore, they might join the majority and vote for Al Gore.

9. Using a typical conservative rotted brain
limbaugh rationalizes his using the words because he did not originate them.

The same brain that made him a cowardly chickenhawk. What a vile man, but I think he is being punished to some extent. The 21 hours a day he is not on the air, he is lonely, unloved with no one to love, no friends, no social life that does not involve hating. A pathetic human being who has to buy companionship in whatever form it comes.

He ought to hold up Limbaugh has the cowardly little man that he is. Use him as an example of what is wrong with America. It really fits in nicely with his campaign themes. Actually, all of our candidates should be united on this front. Muting the voices that divide America would go a long way in healing this country.

16. He's Pissing Off A "Money Demo"
Recently I chatted with a radio types...about Imus and the Rushbo crap. Seems the I-Man woke up some long silent voices inside radio...especially in the advertising areas that could make things interesting. It's a combination of radio's real bad economy and the implosion of the industry from within due to years of gross mismanagement. Every dime a radio station can make these days is precious and the threat of losing any of the few remaining pieces of gold is sending major shivers across the board.

Rushbo blew it by putting this crap out so soon after the Imus fiasco. This got the attention of a lot of station managers...and also energized a lot of black programmers and listeners. Remember, it wasn't the words that got Imus' fired, but the loss of advertisers and the power that blacks now have built within the industry (and not a bad thing). This was especially noted by companies that owned stations that not only air Rushbo's crap but also own stations that program to black audiences. Many of these urban stations generate more money than the stations carrying Rush, and that's getting a lot of attention and scrutiny.

Rushbo lives on the airwaves on many "dead" signals...AM stations that are barely able to pay the electricity bill now and he provides cheap and easy programming. When Rushbo starts to be a liability to a station, we'll see him start to vanish from the airwaves.

22. A most interesting take.
Edited on Mon May-07-07 01:36 PM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
I used to interact with MD's and PD's at radio stations a lot, when I was a tour manager for bands. I wasn't shy, either. I told them that I could see the writing on the wall, quite clearly, and that some of the directions they were going would not turn out very well at all. Of course, no one in the universe can be more blindered, smug or self-satisfied than they. So they just came out with the usual nostrums about how radio was about advertising, not the programming.

And therein lies the essential problem.

As I see it, they became so wedded to advertising as their raison de etre' that they started allowing their advertising and sales departments and even their advertisers essentially make programming decisions. Thus, the rise of the Squawking Heads, while proven formats(mostly real entertainment-based...) or formats that gave the WHOLE of the community a voice, were abandoned, in the search for another point or two in "the book". The book, the book, the book.

I wish I could say that I feel sorry for those clowns in radio, but I don't. I have known too many of them, I have heard their self-serving blather and I have seen really good radio get eviscerated by them. Mayhaps they can start a new career, when it all shakes out. One more suited to their talents:

Tailgunner on a garbage truck.

On edit: One more thing will really, really, really enervate radio: Stop letting MTV be their programmers. Break MTV's tone-deaf grip on new music. It has become a travesty. Not that it ever wasn't, in truth.

30. Thank You For Your Response....
I spend 30 years in "the biz" and saw it go from something very vibrant and creative into the depressing cesspool its become. You saw correct...the greed overtook all aspects of the business driving out quality talent and then, through consolidation, turned local stations into nothing more than remote satellite facilities for a corporate network. Local artists trying to break in now go to the Internet rather than local radio to get exposure, there's almost no local news or public affairs. It's all cheap and controlled by bean counters hundreds or thousands of miles away.

Recently I did a survey of where radio has gone for some friends and clients and what I've seen is worse than I had predicted. Financially many stations have been ruined and what's left are the remnants to can either be operated at a small profit or just breaks even. The large corporates are sucking on their buying binges of the late 90's...maintaining hundreds of stations from a shrinking bottom line with most of whatever money is made going to pay off the huge debts. The large corporates thought they could monopolize radio and keep growing the stock and "stick" values...now those are collapsing and I suspect we'll start seeing stations going dark in the near future.

In 1988, I was at the "dawn of Rushbo"...I was working with a consultant who had just landed Rush his gig in New York from Sacramento and was about to launch the "EIB" network. I was told that if I "followed" Rushbo's lead, I'd be in New York as well...until I heard what this would require. While I loved talk radio (and still do)...and had worked at it for nearly a decade, I saw where it was heading and it wasn't where I wanted to be. I still have an interview I did with Rush at that time...an amazing thing to hear as he refuted all he became. I have absolutely no regrets of how things turned out...if anything, I feel a lot of sympathy for the few good friends I still have in "the biz" who are trying to hang on.

The bright side is new technology is creating new opportunities. Internet Radio offers the great equalizer...empowering many instead of the wealthy...and hopefully when the walls of corporate radio crumble, in its ashes will once again rise a new type of local radio.

Cheers...

23. Hardly on the ropes
I listen to Limbaugh a lot and He's playing this for all it's worth. He just played the "Magic Negro" parody again and doesn't seem to make any apology for it, I think he's shoveing in everybodys face.
Remember, Rush is a business and He owns it in partnership with Premier Radio and Clear Channel. He pays Himself 35 million a year and participates in the profits of the company. If anybody is going to fire him it would have to be himself, does anyone think that will happen? I can tell you from personal experience that for every sponser on his show many more are lined up waiting for an opening. Why? 600 radio stations and 20 million listeners. Ask anyone in radio time sales, the show sells itself.

Who do you think Limbaugh wants to get into the White House next? I think Mrs. Clinton will be the best thing that could happen to Limbaugh.

There's no doubt in my mind he gets money and other considerations under the table from the RNC, Big Oil, the Pharms, the Telcos, Big Tobacco and others for pushing their agenda.

46. Bingo!
This question has been eating me a lot lately. 20 million listeners = 35 million annual income? That's a buck seventy-five per listener per year. That seems really high Twenty million isn't much of an audience. Bets in his heydey, Paul Harvey dwarfed that number.

I gotta figure carrying water is what pays, not work-at-home schemes and internet florists. Some of the buckets he's toting gotta smell pretty bad.

25. That doesn't mean that
Radio stations won't drop him. He can run his own show all he wants, but if it only plays on one station, they'd better have a strong signal.

In fact, if all 13 million of his listeners (yes the 20 million is an over-inflated number, left over from the times when we were told that simply everybody was listening to the sack of shit)...wanted to move to Texas, and let Rush run his show from there, then I say "more power to them".

I guess your point is that "Rush is invincible, we may not even try to take him on". That's what people used to say about Hitler.

To paraphrase Michael Corleone; "if we've learned anything, it's that we can get at anyone".

27. Not invincible but
Remember we are talking about a business here. Try this as an analogy.
Limbaugh, One program on 600 stations (think cells) expose some of the cells but that doesn't expose the entire network because there isn't a centralized command. Kill one station in a market and he just moves to another outlet (happens all the time in the radio game). Each station sells its alotted time to the local advertisers, Rush keeps the national stuff. Ad rates based on ratings.

Air America, Try to build a competing network, with all day programming and a centralized network structure. Cut off the head(a few flagship stations) and the whole thing crashes.

Top three Screamers, Limbaugh, Hannity and Weiner.
Top rated "progressive" Schultz.
Who owns Schultz? The guys that gave Limbaugh his start. He not only sounds like Rush but he's modeling his business plan after him.
It's all about the Benjamins.

28. Slight Rush threadjack - I wonder if he'll refer to John McCain
as "Carol Channing" AGAIN?? Yes, as matter of fact, he used to do this regularly! This was back in the very early 90s, I would guess, and I would listen to his show on the occasional basis (bless me father, for I have sinned!). This was way back in McCain's actual "maverick" days, when he was willing to break from the GOP party line every so often, even sounding like he meant it once in a while. It's almost a fantasy to consider the possibility of McCain actually capturing the nomination so that old Oxy-boy would be forced to suck-up to him. Oh, the insincerity!!!

29. Isn't Armed Forces Radio a government run outlet?
If so I think we should demand that Rush be removed from it as government should not be singing Barak the Magic Negro to the military or anyone else for that matter...Rush needs to go from Armed Forces Radio as I don't wish my tax dollars to pay for such obscenity and bigotry as he spews...

40. Yes. Your's and My tax-dollars are funding Rush on the radio
Kind of pisses you off, doesn't it? It make me extremely angry since I happen to be active duty military.

Think for a minute that you're a liberal Democrat who loves his country and has proudly and honorably served your Navy for over 24 years. Now imagine that you're on an 8 month deployment in support of the GWOT. Then think of how it feels when Rush calls you a communist, terrorist supporting, American-hating-leftie.

I despise that fat bastard. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. If Rush were within reach, I'd rip his tits off.

32. Might as well forget about it
I posted on the DU a few weeks ago that I was ready to go after Limbaugh AGAIN, and got three posts..

Our Site took him on and got TONS of MAJOR advertisers to drop him, and some within the SAME AFTERNOON we started the Boycott.. I was on Both O'Reilly's show and Scarborough soon after that, and we made a major DENT in the guy..

but The DU is all about posting drivebys now.. no one gives a shit if you can do the job, they just want to JAW all the time.

This place used to be a hotbed of Activism among the members, but now getting something to happen is like farting in a tornado. I've spent 5 years and 300,000 dollars fighting the right, and if I mention it now, people just ATTACK ME and claim that I'm BRAGGING..

About ready to give up on this place, sorry for sounding so down, but there's really no coherence here like there was, and it's stupid, with a 100,000 people fighting ONE THING, we could literally change the culture.

But like I said, don't bank on it.. not here.. not anymore..

42. Your commentary is sad but true
This place definately has changed. We have so much power if people would be willing to mobilize.

35. Hope this softens Rash up
One of the reasons Rash is still around it that politicians and the media are terrified of Rash and his supporters. With the safety of numbers, more can come forward to expose the hatred and lies that make up Rash's show. I'm sure many people would like to.

Rash can't survive if he can't threaten.

37. Your prediction is flat wrong.
His stupid parody song and the surrounding publicity will only gain him more listeners.

The fact that you are even posting about it guarantees more listeners.

He'll have more listeners than ever, because he's smart enough to exploit controversy.

39. As long as he continues to generate millions in ad revenue he'll go nowhere.
Limbaugh brings in tons and tons of cash for his stations. Enough to justify his quarter billion dollar contract. It's easy to push a jackass like Imus off the air as he had no ratings to speak of and was not a cash cow the way Limbaugh is. Unless he just starts flat out calling people "niggers" or whatever he is going nowhere but to the bank. That's the way it is.

43. I'd like to see every last Dem Candidate for President jointly Condemn Rush for this....
This should be one issue that they all agree upon. You do not have to be a black candidate to see the evil in Rush doing this.

It seems like a no-brainer.
