Mark Hardy, a former Rangers defenseman and currently an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings, was arrested on Friday in Washington and charged with misdemeanor sexual assault.

Hardy, 51, reportedly was arrested at Washington's famed Mayflower Hotel in the early hours of Friday morning. He was scheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court later Friday.

Multiple outlets, including TMZ.com and KTLA.com, have reported that the complainant is Hardy's daughter. Jessica Hardy, 21, attends Georgetown University.

The Kings said in statement: "We are aware of the charge. Due to the legal nature of this matter we will not have any additional comments at this time."
