"Brazil is ready to be led by a woman", candidate Dilma Rousseff said
Edited on Fri May-21-10 06:46 PM by demoleft
AFP - The woman vying to become Brazil's first female president said Friday that the most populated country in Latin America is ready for a female at the helm.

"Brazil is ready to be led by a woman," Dilma Rousseff said in a speech to political and business leaders in New York.

Rousseff, the favourite of outgoing leftwing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, said she could bring unique benefits.
...
Rousseff is campaigning on a platform of continuing Lula's policies, which sought to address massive social inequality and poverty in Brazil.

1. too bad the USA isn't
not trying to start a flame war or a Hillary-woulda-done-better conflict. I just don't think a woman can win here. Good luck to Dilma!

2. "too bad the USA isn't"...
Yeah, and you're right, it won't be coming for quite some time.. if ever..

And I can't blame it all on the men who have such an irrational fear of actually seeing a woman in a position of power, like the presidency.. it takes a lot of self-loathing, or, at the very least, deeply insecure women to maintain the status quo..

3. it takes both
I can't pretend I undestand the psychological makeup of the female - or male - voter, but I do know we women have a long way to go before we're truly viewed as equal in all ways, including in politics.
