Tony Snow: "He [Bush] doesn't like war either, but he also does not like the alternative"

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N07371807.htm

<snip>

A Newsweek magazine poll on Saturday said Bush's approval rating had fallen to 28 percent, an all-time low for him in that survey, and 62 percent believed Bush's recent actions in Iraq showed he was stubborn and unwilling to admit mistakes.

Snow dismissed the Newsweek poll as skewed because it surveyed Americans who leaned more towards Democrats than Republicans.

"The president certainly understands that Americans don't like war. He doesn't like war either, but he also does not like the alternative," he said.

:wow:

Right--the only thing worse than war is...no war.

8. That was precisely my thought as well....what an incredibly
stupid thing for Snow to say...this will be all over the place tonight!

Sounds about right though, bush is a war monger, like we didn't know that since day one.

15. I doubt that it would go anywhere tonight
except maybe The Daily Show.

Just like all of the outrageous and ridiculous things Bush has said over the years this will be brushed aside as irrelevant. "We all know what he meant."

:eyes:

I think Tony was trying to say the alternative was some vague idea of a concept of "defeat" or Defense or surrender but of course we know of another alternative to war. How sad that it's not even "on the table"?

21. Sorry I didn't clarify...I meant to say Daily Show, maybe...
Countdown, or the Late Shows, and of course the Lib/Prog sites...that is where it will take hold, the cyber-world...:D

I doubt there would be anything covered in the the News.

We all know what he meant, but it is a classic screw-up, one this administration has just about bet it's entire existence upon.

22. Oh you meant the media that actually reflects reality?
There are 2 realities on TV News. You listed the ones that actually tell the truth. Often they do it with humor and occassionally some rage but they never lie.

It's Freudian lingerie if there ever was. :hi:

Edited on Mon May-07-07 01:49 PM by bryant69
Obviously we all know that what Snow meant was the President doesn't like the alternative to us staying in Iraq, which he sees as Civil War and an emboldening of our enemies (the first one certainly will come to pass, the latter is pretty questionable). He didn't mean that the President doesn't like Peace (although he might well not).

16. However, it's still symptomatic of Snow's . . .
Kool-aid consumption. He's supposed to be the consummate professional -- the clear and strong media voice of the administration after "Shifty" Fleischer and "Sweaty" McClellan.

And yet he continually makes these really stupid statements that can be thrown back in his face, presumably because he can't stand any criticism of this president, justified or not. He's so in love with his own "eloquence" that he doesn't know when to simply deflect a question in a straightforward manner and move on. He can't even deflect questions without adding his own personal snark to the deflection, thus keeping the press and other consumers of his utterances in a permanent state of pique.

I.e., an incompetent. Better-spoken than most of Bush's incompetent hirelings, but -- as far as managing the news and bolstering the administration's credibility -- a complete loser.

11. No more photo-ops then?
The SOB gets pics with the military backdrop every chance he gets. The military asked the asshole to stop using the troops as props. Unfortunately, that request fell on deaf ears.

24. If he didn't have a complacent military to stand in as a photo op backdrop
...who else would take the duty?

I'd like to ask Bush if he's ever addressed a crowd that wasn't thoroughly hand-picked, searched and vetted beforehand. But they won't let disabled veterans who didn't vote "R" anywhere near the impostor.

12. tony has such a grasp of the obvious
the poll turned out the way it did because Newsweek surveyed people who leaned towards democrats then republicans. Well tony more people across the country do that. I know you'd rather have a survey of the klan klaverns in Alabama and Indiana and Mississippi but there ya go.

13. Tell W. to read the Rasmussen Reports poll.
He's doing a whole lot better by that poll. Which, oddly, tells you a whole lot more about the Rasmussen Reports than it tells you about W. Nevertheless, it might be comforting. We know how much he and Laura have been suffering.

19. C'mon, Tony McPhony, we all know that Bush LOVES war.
That evil moronic little monster eats, sleeps and breathes war--but only, of course, from a safe distance. Without war, he'd be bored to fucking tears. War is the only thing that keeps him going. The only thing he loves more than war is....well, nothing.

He is the WAR PREZNIT, goddammit it!!! Just ask him.:patriot:
